The mystery of why Club Leon was unable to execute a deal with TV Azteca for its Liga MX matches has been solved. Leon home matches are now the property of FOX Sports Latin America. In the U.S., FOX Deportes will air Leon home matches starting August 10 at 10:25pm ET. FOX Sports Latin America had the rights to Leon home games when Leon was in the Liga de Ascenso (not Liga MX Ascenso). The old deal apparently contained an option for FOX to purchase the rights if Leon were promoted to Liga MX. -- Azteca America originally planned to sublicense Leon home matches to Univision Deportes Network as compensation for the relegation of Estudiantes Tecos. Instead, Club Tijuana matches were sublicensed.

Not a surprise if that were to happen. Leon wants more than the $12 million/season being offered by TV Azteca: roughly $8 million/year for U.S. rights and roughly $4 million/year for Mexican rights.
