Dacia Mioveni (it seems they have a decent sponsor with Dacia) and Delta Tulcea on promotion spots ... wow, what a surprise!

Pity for FC Baia Mare, at least Gaz Metan Medias & Corvinul Hunedoara managed to keep the league.

    Why?

They didn't apply for one. As their owner said - "Our objective was avoiding relegation, we didn't expect this.".
Top 5 from both Liga II series are required to apply for a license before March 1st. Delta, although in the top 5 in Seria 1, didn't apply.

Isn't that unfair to the fans & team?

It's better than promoting and then having to withdraw after 10 matches due to financial problem. There are some requirements for Liga I football: the stadium, the financial situation and so on.

Delta Tulcea will finish in the top 2, thus Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt avoids relegation from Liga I, as Delta doesn't have a license.

What a pity for the Tulcea fans! They get a 6:0 win and finish the season as the leader ... but finally all for nothing. :( How much compensation will Piatra Niamt (the "German Stone" :) pay to them now? ;)

And how much will Rimnicu Vilcea pay to Gaz Metan Medias? :p

According to the Romanian press, between 800.000 and 1.000.000 Euro.

Not as much, but I'm pretty sure Gaz Metan's players were extramotived.

that would be a very smart thing, but why wait so long ?...an 18 team second division will improve play and make games more interesting

finaly my home team Ariesul got into the second division:D

Mircea Sandu used the same old argument: infrastructure. "To get from Constanta to Baia Mare you need 2 days and 2 nights. We need to have the proper infrastructure in place before having an 18 team second division."

Of course, this is BS.

how did you figure the 2 days, train, bus ?

I just looked up Tarom and they have both towns listed. Everything is possible if the money is there and people are willing to work hard for it. No need for BS.:D

Train/bus of course. I never heard of a Liga II team going by place to a match. True, there's no need to do that when there are 2 series.

Can someone explain how promotion/relegation works in Romania?

Last season's Liga II tables (top)
    Seria 1
    Delta Tulcea
    Gloria Buzau
    Petrolul Ploiesti

    Seria 2
    U Cluj
    CSM Ramnica Vulcea
    Dacia Mioveni

From that we get Buzau, Cluj and Dacia Mioveni in the Liga I next season?

Did Tulcea fail some ground requirements or something? Were there playoffs which I missed?

    Re: Promotion

    You've got the wrong standings:

    Seria 1:

    Delta Tulcea
    Gloria Buzau

    Seria 2:

    Universitatea Cluj
    Dacia Mioveni

Regarding Delta Tulcea: According to Romanian FA regulations, at the end of the first half of the championship, teams ranked 1 - 5 in both Liga II series have to apply for a Liga I license. Delta Tulcea, 4th in Seria I, didn't apply for a license. End of story.

@Sir Manchester - could you please merge this thread with the Liga II one? Thanks.
