I notice Record from time to time refers to the Mexican League as the "Liga de las Americas" and with the new changes that will take place in the league (structure, marketing, etc) Record took a poll if the people in Mexico thought it was appropiate to call the league "Liga de las Americas". In Mexico, IIFC, 50% said no. 40% said Yes. 10% said indifferent.

What do you guys think about that name?

What name would you go with?

    I am undecided.

Do I like the name we go by now? HELL NO

Liga de la Primera Division, Torneo COMEX Apertura 200x.

It is not catchy and it is too long.

Would I take Liga de las Americas over what we have currently? YES

But I wouldnt even want that.

I think we should market our league in both english and spanish and the "The Americas League" just doesnt do it for me

I don't like it. I want the word Mexico, de Mexico, or Mexicana somewhere in the name.

I feel the same way metalmaster,

Why is it la liga de las americas ? Because mostly internationals from the Americas play in it ?

The same is true in many leagues throughout the americas.

La liga es de Mexico, no de las Americas.

Es de nosotros, ellos juegan para nosotoros.

I don't like it either. I agree that Mexico should be somewhere in there. As far as marketing in English, I like the way it is referred to here on Big Soccer, the MFL. I'm curious as to how many "Americans" for lack of a better word might follow the MFL. Obviously MLS thinks it needs to attract the Mexican market. I'm wondering how much of a market the MFL could have if it tried to sell its product to the non-mexican, non-hispanic market taking into account merchandising, media sales, etc ...

Liga de las Americas sounds like some cheezy benefit tournament for some noble cause... in the Americas.

When I was still in Houston and America held their tryouts (Futuro Aguila), I was a little surprised to see how many non latins (non spanish speakers) went to try outs. That effect happened in alot of the other cities they went to.

I have seen alot of middle easterners, africans, etc sport Mexican League jerseys. They dont know spanish. They know thier native dialect and they know english. Might as well hold on to those fans and market to them in English.

I know they watch the league, but how are they getting informed?

my problem with the Americas is that I just dont want players from the Americas...

reading other threads from Europe... they talk about the salaries that are paid in leagues such as the norwiegan, finnish, swedish, etc... Mexico pays more than those leagues and I wish we had national team players from those countries to have a more international appeal

That's the thing. I think there is a huge non latino market if the FMF or whomever wanted to take advantage of it. One thing they could do is offer the games in English as SAP. We've also seen several posters here asking for MFL news in English. They at least should have the official website available in multi languages. Marketing, unfortunately, is not one of the FMF's strengths. I think there is a lot of opportunity out there to break into new markets ...

Maybe it has to do with a preceived image of playing in a developing country. I'm wondering how knowledgable Europeans (or even Africans) are about Mexican soccer. You would think that there are agents that would say, hey Mexico is paying bucks. Lets give it a try.

did you ever hear the story about a scotmans (John Kerr) driving from Canada to Mexico just to show up to preason on time? Drove 5 days straight just to suit up for America. :D This was back in 72. That year, a Czech, and 2 serbs came to Mexico (Bora). We need more European players

To be honest, when I saw the name of this thread, I thought it was going to be some kind of super-league, a competition with teams from Canada to Argentina and Chile.

When will people learn that America extends that far?
