I haven't been to a derby since 2017, but it makes me sad thinking back to what the atmosphere was like then compared to now. So much has happened in-between, but you just wonder if it will ever come back

Only positive from this is that I can't delude myself on the final match day hoping that Braga would capitulate.

    See you all next season.

Paulinho missing a sitter, Pote in the first half with a glorious chance. Story of the season, for the amount of chances we create in some games, it's vital we go to the market and spend on a proven striker.

At least they didn't celebrate at Alvalade, but of course we threw away our lifeline for 3rd..

One more game and this silly season is over

Cool, so $18 million to Fama, another 20 or 25 to Mendes, we'll be left with the scraps and a gaping hole at CDM.

No title for the foreseeable future as long as Varandas continues to get cucked publicly as he does on a daily basis.

How much would you sell him for if 60 isn’t enough?

Well, Benfica was able to sell FAILix for $120 million. Enzo Fernandez was sold for $121 million. Darwin for $80 million. Dias for $70 million.

So maybe not getting bent over on easily one of our best players would be ideal. Varandas has shown to be a sort of shitty negotiator up to this point.

We need to put those kind of crazy clauses on our players when they first join us. Because afterwards they won't accept those clauses, they'll want crazy compensation we can't afford

Any way you slice it, benfica is a much bigger club than Sporting. Real sells players for more than Atletico too. Comparing those players to Ugarte is fairly pointless too. Obviously attackers are going to sell for more, especially at their age. Enzo just won a World Cup and is one of the most hyped players in the world. Dias is widely considered one of the best CB in the world.

60 mil for a midfielder at a fourth place club is hard to argue with imo. But what do I know.

    1. Dias isn't considered the best anything. So that's a bit of a reach. Dude was awful at the WC as well when he wasn't surrounded by the best starting 11 money can buy.

    2. Agree with Enzo. Dude's a stud. Why can't we find players who can completely change a game like that?

    3. Sure, Benfica is bigger than us. But they got there by not allowing themselves to get bent over like Varandas does constantly. Benfica finished 3rd place two years in a row, both times behind us. And yet they were still able to sell their players for top dollar. Even their shitty scrub flops were able to provide some return on investment:

    • Yaremchuk: $17 million
    • Everton: $14 million
    • Raul de Tomas: $22.5 million
    • Waldschmidt: $12 million
    • Pedrinho: $18 million (which then ended up turning into David Neres for nothing)

They bought Julian Weigl for $20 million and he's on loan at Mönchengladbach. Watch them recoup almost that entire fee for a player who was largely a flop.

Seems to me you're just simping for Varandas, who apparently needs Mendes to get deals done nowadays.

Weigl got sold for 7m recently so they took a big loss. But yeah they mostly recoup the money, while we spend and usually see those players leave for free or have to pay to get rid of them.

Theres a big investigation going on about the big 3 clubs transfer dealings, wouldn't be surprised if there was a ton of fraudulent behavior going on

cmon man, this is getting ridiculous. He’s surrounded by, and part of, the best 11 money can buy. He wouldn’t play if he wasn’t on that tier. He won player of the year in the best league in the world. He has been on every best 11 since he joined city. I get he’s a benfica youth product. But to pretend he isn’t worth 70 is insanity. Ronaldo also always looked pretty terrible with the NT, is his career trash too?

At this point I really just don’t get what your solution is. Sure, fire Varandas and Amorim. They’re not perfect, I get that. But then what? Who replaces them and does better? I don’t know how old you are, but they are the best president and best manager in my lifetime. By a country mile. And the solution is to just throw it all away and hope the next people are better? When the last 30 years have been utter shit? When Amorim in his short stint here is already the winningest manager in sporting history with the best win percentage in sporting history? Seriously, you seem to have this figured out, so what is the solution?

Also, on another note, Mendes ********s every club over and I would argue he has a much tighter relationship with benfica than sporting. Benfica is not keeping all those fees, nowhere near. This isn’t a sporting getting cucked situation.

And those were all big names before they signed for benfica. Big names are pretty easy to resell, even if they end up failing at the club. Ie Elias.

Honestly, the dude was a bit of a calamity at times this year, and again, was atrocious for the NT at multiple points. Surrounding yourself with world class talent on defense doesn't mean you're one of the best CBs in the world. Portuguese media already saying the same shit about Antonio Silva and he's looked flatout terrible this season. Don't get me wrong, I like Dias. I just think he's insanely overrated. They still got $70 million for him and I've seen more from Ugarte than I have form Dias in his time at SLB.

Also, LOLOLOL at the comment regarding Ronaldo. No offense, but I can't tell if you're trolling or if you're just completely full of shit. Ronaldo looking pretty terrible for the NT? I mean, recently? Yes. But he's the best player to ever play for this country. Period. Do I need to link his hat trick vs Spain at WC 2018 here?

My solution is: find someone else. When BDC sank the ship and put us in the dungeon, you didn't see people saying, "Well, who else is going to replace him?" They had an election and found a replacement. Do the same thing this time. I don't have a crystal ball and can't predict the future. But I know that outside of a fluke title win, Varandas has accomplished the following:

    • Gets ripped off on almost every deal he completes.
    • Has no spine to call our the league or rivals.
    • Sells players like Nunes and Porro on the final day of the transfer window to completely derail our season.
    • Makes his coach do all the media relations while he hides in a closet somewhere.
    • Consistently gets bent over by Salvador and overpays for trash like Paulinho, Esgaio, etc.
    • Just capped off one of the worst seasons in club history.
    • Sold a ton of players and has barely reinvested that money back into the squad.
    • Eliminated our supporters groups
    • Divided our fanbase
    • Is responsible for some of the shittiest attendance this team has ever seen.
    • Eliminated modalities, etc.
    What else do you need?

Imo Eusebio is pretty clearly the best player to play for Portugal. Ronaldo is the best Portuguese player ever, but I think Eusebio did more for the NT. Anyways, agree to disagree. Don’t think we will ever align on this. Good luck with the revolving door of managers and presidents, it’s worked wonders in the past. Stability as everyone knows is the enemy of progress.

I disagree agree with pretty much all your points, but saying Varandas divided our fan base deserves its own shoutout. We were all rosy before??
