Ah yes.. you all don't know what a joy it is to picture the pissed off looks on your faces. I said about two years ago that my goal was to piss off every Fire fan there was, and from the looks of it, I'm well on my way to it. Cheers, Lucid
For the record: Old Soldier Field: 70 yds x 116 yds Cardinal Stadium: 68.3 yds x 110 yds New Soldier Field: up to 75 yds x 116 yds New Soldier Field during football season: 70 x 116 peter
Re: Re: life in naperville Peter, sorry to have doubted you. I have seen the error of my ways. (literally) I will try to remember not to disagree with Peter Wilt. He is always right. (well, mostly anyways.)
Re: Re: life in naperville I hate qualifiers like that. Why not say the field will be up to a Saprissa-like 80x130? It turns out that the soccer field dimensions at CMGI/Gillette were "up to". In other words, less than we were told. I certainly hope it is closer to the 75 than the 70.
Re: Re: Re: life in naperville The width at the new SF will be the Fire's choice up to 75 yards. We will likely use all or most of that width. peter
Peter, Does MLS not make you choose your dimensions before the season and stick to them throughout, just for consistency?
I'm not Peter Wilt, but anyway: New England used to use a wider field until the football preseason started (Foxboro had some corner seats that could be taken out when the football team wasn't playing). I think that they stopped that in the last couple years at Foxboro.
Thanks for the great info. Why is the field 116 yards long if american football is played on a field 120 yards long? Wouldn't the soccer field by 120 yards long by default? JJ
Just for comparison, the fields in the stadiums of First League in Poland are usually 77 yds by 128 yds. In some cases, the length may be shorter by 1-2 yards.
what happens is the goals are moved in (into the football endzone so that: 1. the crossbar is not directly under the football crossbar, thereby eliminating any "which crossbar did it hit" controversies and 2. the top of the 18 yard box lines up with the NFL 10 yard lines at each end. they (NFL teams) would rather have the soccer endline go across the endzone, which is usually colored, rather than have another line at what would be the 8 yard lines on an NFL field.
