No pictures from the game, so I can't comment, but a 1-0 result isn't too bad. The match stats were showing even possession, but it looked like Vaduz had more chances. This team is desperately in need of a center back, and I really hope they're working to secure one. Second leg is next week at home. I have a good feeling, but we'll see how it goes.
Vaduz fall to Zalgiris 2-1 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 at home. Vaduz controlled most of the possession, but it was a moment of magic that sent Zalgiris through after Simkovic scored an arcing goal from outside of the 18 to beat Hirzel. Vaduz are out and don't get the thrill of taking on Sevilla in the next round.
Too bad. I was hoping for the sake of Vaduz that they would get Sevilla. I think that Vaduz should get at least two spots in the EL. If Kosovo gets 2, Liechtenstein should get two.
Kosovo gets two teams because one goes to the Champions League and one goes to the Europa League. If only Vaduz could play in the Champions League, then another Liechtenstein team would get into the Europa League.
I know, but there should be something that says that they should get two. I know they play in the Swiss league, so they only get the Cup winners spot. But really, one spot in the CL, is that going to hurt anything?
They are in League D, Group 4 with Armenia, Macedonia and Gibraltar. Group Stage 06 September 2018 Armenia - Liechtenstein Gibraltar - Macedonia 09 September Macedonia - Armenia Liechtenstein - Gibraltar 13 October 2018 Armenia - Gibraltar FYR Macedonia - Liechtenstein 16 October 2018 Armenia - FYR Macedonia Gibraltar - Liechtenstein 16 November 2018 Gibraltar - Armenia Liechtenstein - Macedonia 19 November 2018 FYR Macedonia - Gibraltar Liechtenstein - Armenia
September results: Armenia 2-1 Liechtenstein Gibraltar 0-2 Macedonia Liechtenstein 2-0 Gibraltar Macedonia 2-0 Armenia
I tried, I really did, but I just can't get into the Nations League. Watching that match against Gibraltar was painful.
Back to back shameful performances from Liechtenstein, with the second even worse than the first. There's no reason this team should be losing to Gibraltar, and no reason why they should be bottom of this group. They're on the cusp of being one of the worst teams in Europe. Shameful. Pauritsch should face significant criticism for this display because I do not see Liechtenstein improving in any areas. I'm not expecting them to topple Germany, but they MUST be better than this moving forward.
Very disappointing to loose to Gibraltar. I was hoping that the team could maybe finish top of the group, not the bottom.
2020 Euro Qualifying Group J: Italy, Greece, Bosnia*, Finland*, Armenia, Liechtenstein How to advance: 1. Top two group finishers qualify for Europe 2. Group winners from the Nations League guaranteed themselves at least a playoff spot. 3. Groups without such nations (Bosnia and Finland in this group) or in which the group winners advance via the top two places send the third place team. Liechtenstein with a poor start against the top two teams: Liechtenstein 0-2 Greece Italy 6-0 Liechtenstein
2019-2020 UEFA Europa League First Qualifying Round 11 July - Breidablik (ICE) vs Vaduz (LIE) 18 July - Vaduz (LIE) vs Breidablik (ICE) Second Qualifying Round 25 July .- Winner of Zeta (MNE)/MOL Fehérvár (HUN) vs Winner of Breidablik (ICE)/Vaduz (LIE) 1 August - Winner of Breidablik (ICE)/Vaduz (LIE) vs Winner of Zeta (MNE)/MOL Fehérvár (HUN) This is the first meeting between Breidablik and Vaduz. Vaduz has never faced a team from Iceland in European competition. Vaduz were seeded 1 (!) in their pot of 10 teams. Breidablik were seeded 10. This is, by no means, an easy task, but if Vaduz plays well, they could go through. If they do go through, they would advance to the second qualifying round for the 6th consecutive year. Vaduz were incredibly unlucky to walk away with nothing from this match. They played really well, but couldn't get that final goal. Defensively, they played wonderfully, but they switched off just once and it cost them dearly. I don't know what next Thursday will bring, but I'm really proud of how they played today. Ich glaube in Vaduz! Hopp Mighty Vaduz!
MIRACLE VADUZ!!! Vaduz defeats MOL Fehervar 2-0 after extra time to move on to the Europa League Third Qualifying Round!! Up next for Die Fürsten is their most difficult challenge in many years: Eintracht Frankfurt. Still, this was an unbelievable result for Vaduz, and the principality will be buzzing for quite a while. Hopp Mighty Vaduz!! 2019-2020 UEFA Europa League Third Qualifying Round 8 August - Vaduz (LIE) vs Eintracht Frankfurt (GER) 15 August - Eintracht Frankfurt (GER) vs Vaduz (LIE)
Vaduz lose the first leg 5-0 in front of a sold out Rheinpark Stadion that was about 85% behind Frankfurt. Vaduz have almost no chance to go through, but the revenue these matches alone will bring helps a club like Vaduz immensely. They'll close out the tie next Thursday in Frankfurt. Hopp Mighty Vaduz
A full house all dressed in red in Frankfurt saw Eintracht Frankfurt eliminate Vaduz from European competition 1-0, and 6-0 on aggregate. It was a miracle that Vaduz made it this far, and, although it ends here, the fact that it ends on the ground of top German Bundesliga team is a pretty good consolation prize. They were never supposed to make it this far, but they did, and it was wonderful. With Europa League 2 starting in a couple of years, they may never get this chance again. HOPP MIGHTY VADUZ!!
