Ouch, this is a little bit of a blow considering his main attribute is speed, and the hip is a major conductor of that trait.

Hope he heals up soon and can start training in a couple months.

    F*** sake.

    That really f'n sucks.

Leeds fans were really hoping to sign him tomorrow for a positive note after the loss of Max Gradel.

This isn't the same type of an injury as Bo Jackson had, is it?

Didn't Spector have some hip troubles that have had a negative impact on his playing abilities?

No, that all happened when he lost the mullet. Never underestimate the power of a mullet.

Hip injuries are more difficult to recover from than knee or ankle injuries. That's not to say he won't recover, but the rehab is harder more painful etc.

Spector did have a labrum tear and surgery. Lots of speculation that the injury slowed his ability to swing his hips around quickly (hush, you in the back row) and/or turn with the quickness needed for an outside back. Whether this speculation is true or not is another matter.

Best of luck to Lichaj in his rehab (and surgery if he ends up having it).

That's a mid January return, late December if he heals faster than expected. Maybe they'll let him go to camp Cupcake?

Why did Villa register him for their 25-man squad?

Why not? It's not like he's keeping anyone off the 25 (as Villa only named 23 players...).

Well the fact that he's not going to play until the next registration window makes it pointless to have registered him now. No difference in 22 and 23 if one won't even be training.

Again, even assuming that they knew he needed this surgery at the time they registered the squad a few weeks ago, there was no harm in naming him to the squad. He's not keeping anyone out of the 25, and who knows, he could make a miraculous recovery and be ready to play before the next registration window.

They did, I remember the timing of it well.

He's not going to straight back in the squad anytime soon, I can almost guarantee he will go on loan when healthy to get his fitness back. I don't think we'll see him playing for Villa this year.

Its not likely but I believe they could register players they sign for free (after the deadline) if they have spaces open. So if someone like Given went down they could go after Hahnemann/Hildebrand and get them registered.

They still have two spots open to sign free agents even with Eric registered. If you really think there's a chance Villa would sign three out of contract players over the next few months, then I've got some beach front property in Nebraska to sell you... Again, there's absolutely no harm in Villa registering him. I frankly don't understand why you think it's so odd that they did. I'd have been a lot more surprised if they hadn't (what kind of message would that have sent to the kid who's got some unpleasant rehab in front of him).

Its really not that hard to understand, he's not going to be playing during this window.

So the only message that it would send is that hes not going to be playing until January... which is reality.

He's not going to get thrown in the deep-end even if he recovers faster from hip surgery than expected.

I understand it does no harm but it doesn't amount to anything more than a ceremonial move either.

I never said they would sign 3 free agents, so don't be a dick.

So why did you question why they named him to the 25 man squad in the first place?
