From kicker: Until end of next week all clubs will know what DFL has to say about their licence application. Rumours say that one Bundesliga and two 2. Bundesliga clubs won't get a licence in the first run. The Bundesliga clubs, who face trouble: Dortmund - 30 M Euro loss in the first six months of the season, expected 50-60 M loss. DFL will probably tell them to sell players for a certain amount. Kaiserslautern - calculated with a 8.2 M loss. The cost saving measures did not work yet. In case of relegation they probably won't get a licence. Hamburg - last year almost 15 M loss. This year they calculated with a "black 0", but they couldn't cut their expenses as they wanted to. They are negotiating with a finance agent, but they'll have problems if the deal fails.
I hope Dortmund (the bucks) get a license, cause that's guaranteed points for F.C. Schalke 04 (Die Macht im Revier).
I love this part of the season. Retribution for sins of the past. Personally, I think all of the three BL teams discussed will get their license (assuming FCK doesn't get relegated on merit). What are the two 2.BL teams rumored to be at risk?
Osnabrueck and Union are probably going to be relegated on merit, so the professional license thing is probably moot for them (unless the penalty is a drop to the 4th Division).
Bielefeld will face problems if they don't promote. The players get their wages with some months delay, which is the same procedure as every year for Arminia...
I'm sure Dortmund will hold a fire sale - and should they move Rosicky and Koller, that will be a huge dent in the debts. Kaiserslautern.....ouch.
Ah, I was not aware of that. Good luck to them then. They'll need it. In the case of Kaiserslautern, do the financial problems have more to do with the collapse of the television deal with Kirch and the club's reliance on the money that it was supposed to receive from that deal, or are the problems more the result of financial mismanagement on the part of the Kaiserslautern directors?
The seven BL clubs expected to be granted a license without conditions: Bayern, Leverkusen, Gladbach, Schalke, Bremen, Freiburg and Bochum.
I think the answer is both. Kaiserslautern has been a team in recent years to live on the very edge of its means. They counted on (and spent in advance) TV money and european cup money (among other sources), and when the money dried up, Lautern found itself overextended. Put another way, they budgeted unwisely on contingencies and had no viable plan for stopping the bleeding (hence, the shortsighted but necessary moves to sell the rights to Klose and to sell the stadium).
I wonder if any other club could pull off a save-the-club campaign like St. Pauli did last off-season with the "Retter" fundraising (to avoid dropping to the 4th league). Lautern and Union could manage it I bet, although it's a ton of money for Lautern. Pauli only needed 2 mio. euros. (by the way, this is my first post ever)
Welcome. A first post on St. Pauli shows impressive loyalty. I can't say St. Pauli is a favorite of mine, but they are a fun club and I hope they make a quick return back to professional soccer, where they belong.
Licence without restrictions: Bayern, Bremen, Leverkusen, Rostock, Wolfsburg, Freiburg, Mönchengladbach, Cologne Licence with restrictions (bottom line: no new debts): Hamburg, 1860, Hannover, Hertha, Bochum, Stuttgart Licence with conditions (=still have to fulfil requirements to get the licence): Kaiserslautern – no details known, Lautern already considers the conditions to be fulfilled. The budget will drop to 16.5 M in Bundesliga (lowest budget this season: Frankfurt with 24 M) and 8.5 M in 2.Bundesliga (problem in this case: get rid off the well paid players) Dortmund – no details known, speculated that they have to prove securities of 25 M Euro; no problem according to GM Meier. Frankfurt – according to the club no restrictions in case of staying in Bundesliga. Securities of 1.5 M Euro are needed for 2.Bundesliga. 2.Bundesliga Overview: No problems for: Aue, Fürth, Ahlen, Burghausen Restrictions: Aachen, Oberhausen, Regensburg, Unterhaching Conditions: Nuremberg, Bielefeld, Mainz, Cottbus, Duisburg, Karlsruhe, Lübeck, Trier, Berlin, Osnabrück Regionalliga Glance: 60 clubs applied for a licence, only SV Elversberg got it without restrictions. 17 got a licence with restrictions and 42 still have to fulfil conditions.
Wrong: Dortmund and Franktfurt already got the licence but have to fulfill some condition during next season (it is rumoured that BVB has to show 25-30 Mio Euro exrta cash). Only Kaiserlautern haven't got it till now but will surely have all papers in place till June (if they avoid relegation, if not the task won't become easier). But also clubs like Schlacke and some others are observed by DFL and some have to show monthly reports or aren't allowed to spend before selling.
Just to clear this up: there are two versions going around. One is saying that only Kaiserslautern has to fulfil further conditions, another one is saying that also Dortmund and Frankfurt have to fulfil conditions. The overview I delivered was by kicker, who usually are better informed than others in such matters, but of course I dont know their sources. But as they quote Meier saying "We are not far away from it with the numbers we already presented", I guess they are right.
Nope, the one and only version is that Lautern has to fulfil conditions till June 16th to get the licence and some other clubs have to fulfil conditions during the next season but already got the licence. BVB has to cut its spendings (or raise their cash portofolio) by (rumoured) 25-30 Mio Euro during next season. As they have a Schechter loan till at hand that they could draw at any time as it seems, there won't be a problem with DFL ("only" in paying back the money over the years). DFL's only duty is to gurantee that every club can pay its bills till the end of the season so that no club goes bancrupt during the season. It is not their duty to control whether a club is profitable or not. Meier's quote is not related to the June 16th date but to the reducting of spendings next season. Means, with getting rid of Amoroso, Herrlich, Reuter and maybe Oliseh and Reina plus no new big signings, BVB already save some money. Further reduction of spendings are planned to finally meet the DFL conditions for next season.
