It kinda ticks me off that certain non Brazilian South American clubs get to play the Copa Libertadores every year without ever missing a year. Teams like Uruguays Penharol, Nacional, Colombias America and countless others from smaller South AMerican Countries are there every year. Why? Because in their countries there are only 2 or 3 bigs clubs (a few more in bigger countries). Nonetheless any major club in those nations have great odds of being there every year. Meanwhile in Brazil there are at least 15 to 20 Clubs that have good chances of making the Copa, but only about 3 or 4 spots are open for Brazilian teams. So what happens? Many great Brazilian clubs can go a decade or more without playing a Libertadores. Brazil, half the size and population of South America should get more spots, at least 6! Uruguay, Paraguay, Equador are basicly the size of any of Brazils 27 States (smaller than many). So if each Brazilian state could get 2 reps then yeah they too would have the same teams there every year. Nice to be a Penharol when you know you ahve a Libertadores every year while Brazilian clubs have to fight there asses off to get in 1 libertadores every 10 years. Ok Ive vented...
So you think you´re the master of South America? ! and the master of the football world too?? I´m sick and tired of Brasil fan´s pride, you are bigger , it doesn´t makes you the best!! And if you believe Brasil is the master of SAmerica JA!, you´re are the only country out!. My godness, There´s a bunch of Brasil Head dominating everything here!!
Re: Re: Libertadores cheats Brazil Well, one of these days I was watching in TV a documentary about WC´s history, well I have seen already WC history shows but it´s good to see again all those stars and matches. But my surprise was that the documentary only showed Brazil´s matches...even in 1978,1982,1986 and 1994 WC. Ignoring completely such a super star as Maradona,or in 1990 the German stars, Klinnsman, and other important matches. As I said before, for me Maradona is better than Pele, but Brazil is Brazil and it seems for many people there´s nothing else. PD: Brazil is the only country of South America that differ of the rest of us because they don´t speak spanish, spanish is the languages of all Latin and South America. Also of all the 80% of countries in America.
o.k, I'l admit to being a Brazilophile, but I'm a math head to, and it does raise an interesting point: In Europe, the biggest countries don't make up more than 15% or so, but in South America, one country accounts for half the population. The next largest country in South America is only one-fifth the size of Brazil. Brazil has consequently many more teams and much larger markets, and many more leagues than most other countries. So it does seem a legitimate thought that the one big country should get more berths, no? Does the Libertadores use a coefficient system like the Champion's league to determine spots, so that the best performing associations send more teams? If so, you'd think Brazil and Argentina would get more berths than anyone, except perhaps Mexico. Guinho
I can´t stand the position that Brazil has within the FIFA.Just too many times I´ve seen things go their way. Most blatant probably was the disallowed Belgium goal.Never seen anything like that.I´m glad Brazil is in South-America,so they only annoy me on the net. With a population of 180 milion and a big footballtradition you don´t need the FIFA helping you.
soccerscout...get over the Brazil issue...have you ever thought it's because Brazil is the best league in S. America that the same teams don't always make it in? The worst part about the CL is Venezuela selling its slots to the MFL.
Scorpio Ok Scorpio, I know i shouldn't do this but... DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT IT WOULD MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IF BELGIUM HAD THAT GOAL!!! Guys, everybody JUSTIFIES the number of EUFA spots at the WC by arguing "number of mambers and quality... bla bla bla" So he is using the same argument "Size & Quality" by a Brasilian makes him uhmm snob... Regards
all this thread has served to do was remind me of the immense amount of CL coverage i watched whilst in mexico last summer. made it very hard to leave my hotel room. i miss those days...::sigh::
"all this thread has served to do was remind me of the immense amount of CL coverage i watched whilst in mexico last summer. made it very hard to leave my hotel room. i miss those days...::sigh::" well guess what, mexicos CL magic has dissapeared. Both teams right now (pumas and cruz azul) have lost 2 games. Mexican teams were known for doing wonderful at CL, but now they are going to have to work harder than ever before to go to the second phase.
Just the most blatant example of favors you get.If it would have made any difference in the end is another thing.Belgium could have layed back after the 1-0 and play their favourite counter game. Rivaldo´s act against Turkey and FIFA´s reaction or Ronaldo´s "goal" are other examples. That´s only 2002,I remember some offside goals in 94 as well. Brazil=FIFA
actually, i didn't see a single mexican team play a game while i was over there. i forget who i saw play specifically, but i recall brazillian, argentinian, bolivian, and maybe ecuadorian teams, but no mexican. though i did see a lot of club america HIGHLIGHTS, i didn't see any games.
Are you serius? Bad calls happens in Futbol, that's unfortunate a part of the game Rivaldo act was bad, but the he didn't kick the ball against any opposition, that guy deserver a red or at least a yeollow (wich would be a second), so his actting didn't alter that game. He exagerated, acted taking advantage on a really stupid act by the turkey player. He did make it up! I really don't know wich goal you are talking about in the 94 Cup Brazil has always won it fair and square, dubious calls as I said are an unfortunate side of the game Take care
Hold on FOLKS...this isnt a post about "BRAZIL is the greatest". Its simple FACTS. Some of Brazils greatest clubs never or rarely get to play in the CL. Maybe on average 1 or 2 times a decade, because BRAZIL has 15 GREAT LARGE CLUBS plus another 20 smaller clubs equivelent to most other "large" clubs in other nations in SA. So what happens is teams like America Cali, Colo Colo, Penharol and many other LIETERALLY get free rides EVERY YEAR into CL while 15+ large and traditional clubs in Brazil have to fight for 3 or 4 spots. In Brazil during the last 30 years NOT ONCE HAS A FINAL of a Brazilian championship been between the SAME 2 TEAMS. How many times in the last 30 years was the Uruguayan final between Penharol x Nacional or in Paraguay Olimpia x whoever? This isnt intended to downplay Uruguay or anyone else...I love Uruguay!! Its just a simple fact exposition. IT SUCKS to be a Brazilian club and want to play in the CL. ITs soooo much harder to get in. Again for those that dont understand, remember Brazil is literally 50% of the size of SA and at least 50% of the population, but they get the same or maybe 1 spot more than tiny countries. Uruguay gets 2 or 3 spots and how many clubs do they have that are any good? 2 maybe! Uruguay is the size of the Brazilian state Rio Grande do Sul (and neighbors) in RS we have 2 Large clubs Gremio and Inter and a semi large Juventude plus dozens small clubs. As a state obviously they dont get a spot they have to fight for measly spots against the rest of the enormous country! Look at the dominence of the 4 Brazilians in this years CL: So far...9 Wins, 3 Ties, ZERO LOSES.
OK Soccerscout. You can't have it both ways. If you think Brazil deserves so many spots in the Libertadores then you should be ok with CSF not having more than 4 spots in the World Cup. After all, Europe is bigger and its Chamiponship is more competitive, just as Brazil's is more competitive than other South American leagues. And you're still a spammer. Gre-Nal threads belong in the Brazil forum, not in the Beautiful Game forum, and you rarely, if ever, actually discuss stuff, you just post a bunch of information about what you think people should know about. And when you do "discuss" things you just whine about how Brazil is better and deserves more.
Ombak you're an...ok I wont go there. You say Europe is bigger. Bigger than what? Bigger in size? Europe is actually relatively small. You can fit most of Europe in Brazil alone. But who cares... As for spamming, you have a very weak argument... the Beautiful Game section is an open section for ANY topic that ones sees as worthy of the "Beautiful Game" thread. I think my Brazil related topics are. If you dont skip them. Its not like Im posting them in the UEFA Board or something like that. While you are at it get rid of the Brazil logo, you are not worthy. At least I put up material that some find interesting, thats all that matters.
Number of teams. Countries. Geeze think a little. Unless you think China deserves a permanent WC spot, population is a pretty weak argument. Fair enough, it's more that it's redundant since there is already a forum dedicated to Brazil topics. And frankly the whining threads qualify as trolling I think, especially in this forum. This is where you don't want to go.
Funny that clubs like Peñarol, America de Cali, Nacional, Deportivo Cali, Olimpia and Atletico Nacional are mentioned as reasons for the "unfairness" of the process. If anything, those clubs have succeeded or have been finalists DESPITE the process. All of these clubs(and those clubs who keep trying and failing) automatically start off as underdogs year after year going up against the Argentine and Brasilian clubs. Yet, each of the ones mentioned manage to fight until the last minute and never let their heads down. These are clubs that should be in the CL no matter the size of the countries they're from. Looking at recent history: - Olimpia fought back and won the last one despite losing at home in the first leg. - America de Cali got in the final in 1996 by orchestrating a brilliant comeback after being down 0-2 on aggregate at one point.(One that I won't forget) - Cruz Azul, a Mexican club, fought back to tie in the aggregate at the Bombonera, of all places, when it seemed that they would falter badly and forced Boca into a penalty shootout. - Sporting Cristal reached the finals by beating the likes of Racing Club Avellaneda and Velez Sarsfield. It is always expected that these clubs don't succeed when facing the Brasilian/Argentinian clubs. So when they do it's a VERY BIG deal. Besides, if anyone thinks that the process is too much in favor of the other nations, how do you explain Argentinos Juniors?
Mexico should not play in the Libertadores, period. Take their two spots, give one back to the Venezuelan champion, and the other to Brazil. Then it is a truly South American champions league. Otherwise let's call it the Latin American Champions League and have Central America and Mexico in it. Brazil-5 Argentina-4 Colombia-3 Chile-3 Uruguay-3 Paraguay-3 Ecuador-3 Peru-3 Bolivia-3 Venezuela-1 Defending Champion-1
Stop the whining! Typical brazilian! They think the world revolves around them! If the brazilian teams are so good, why is it that they don't win the Libertadores every year? Speaking of Fifa's favors to Brazil: do you remember ever hearing the phrase: Brazil drawn into the "group of death"! in a World Cup? It seems the only reason for Costa Rica going to the World Cup is to be in Brazil's group. And if that wasn't enough last year they threw in China in their group! God forbid we loose Brazil in the first round!
What BS. A couple of seasons Monterrey went and lost out in the 1st round, the next competition, America went to the semi's and were 1 goal away from Pk's to get into the final. But apparently as soon as they start struggling, its over forever. Please!
