Yes, Plata can play, according to globo/ge. The news about the rescinded card came in after the other news, as far as I can tell, so i thought he could play. Since ge is pretty reliable I checked there and their latest news is that he can play.
CONMEBOL did publish an announcement on its website yesterday: "CONMEBOL anula efeitos da expulsão de Plata e podera jogar a próxima partida." Good stuff. I know some people are upset, but Plata was kicked and yet got a second yellow. I applaud this decision.
Glad you guys survived that! You can imagine how nervous I am for tomorrow, going in with the same 1 goal lead, but over there instead of at home!
River is an awful squad right now, knew they didn't have a chance. They have too many walking calamities and old legs to beat a team like Palmeiras. Estudiantes should lose to Flamengo tomorrow as well, just too big a gulf in quality to overcome. The only realistic chance of a non brazilian champion has always been Racing since the start of this copa (LDU is not realistic since the final won't be in altitude). They are the most motivated side for this competition and play drastically different from any other argentinian club right now.
He didn't call a PK for your team in the first half and then when he calls one in the second half, River Plate players got mad. They all rushed him at the end of the match. Either way, he did a subpar job and both teams were angered by his poor refereeing. Your team is looking solid, and River tried, but when your team had chances, it capitalized. A deserved semifinal berth. As well, Palmeiras' back-to-back victories in this quarterfinal round made this the 16th time a Brazilian team eliminated an Argentine team in the elimination stages of the Libertadores since 2020, from the oitavas-de-final to the final match. In contrast, they eliminated our teams 5 times during this time; one of them was in the 2025 oitavas-de-final, when Vélez Sarsfield knocked out Fortaleza.
Oh well. The referee was still subpar. And since 2020, Brazil is 16-6 in mata-matas vs. them, not 16-5. Let's see if Flamengo makes it 17-6 tonight.
Didn't watch the match, but from what I hear São Paulo had chances to score. Stats says 26 shots against 4. Also had chances in the first leg. Pretty brutal not to score a goal with that many chances over 180 mins. Tough break @Century's Best
Estudiantes getting plenty of the ball so far but not really threatening Flamengo much. First 25 mins in and Flamengo had the best scoring chance with Pedro almost scoring only to be denied by a sliding defender.
Unlucky for Flamengo ... game under control and they concede on a speculative long ball right at the end of 1st half. I do expect Flamengo to score in the 2nd half.
SPFC didn't deserve it tonight. A few more centimeters in Ecuador and SPFC might've drawn 2-2, but tonight, the team was out of ideas. SPFC simply isn't where Palmeiras and Flamengo are. I don't like saying this, but it's a fact. I hope your team eliminates LDU.
@Ombak Glad your team has Rossi... glad your team comes back to Rio de Janeiro with a semifinal berth na bagagem. However, I hope your team plays better against Racing because I can see Racing being a bigger threat than Estudiantes was.
Well, I can breathe now. Almost a Flamengada. Could have been a 2x0 loss but the second goal was offside. It went to PKs, and I have to say, a Brazilian team hitting all (4) PKs in Argentina, requires nerves of steel. Rossi saved two PKs to make up for the kind of soft goal he gave up and Flamengo didn't even have to take the fifth.
Not gonna lie ... I much rather face LDU than São Paulo. Even with a better team, it would end up being an even matchup considering the recent KO match history.
On one hand I wanted you guys out today ... on the other hand I'd rather you guys in until the SF because Flamengo x Palmeiras in the Brasileirão is only a few days before the 1st SF leg. Now both teams will have to consider the Libertadores for that match. Which is kind of sad if both teams decide to rest starters. We also play Cruzeiro in between both SF legs. Pretty brutal. I don't know how Abel is gonna handle this sequence of games. Maybe we can get a good win against LDU away in the first leg. We are a very good away team specially in Libertadores against non Brazilian teams.
Sports news pundits in Brazil have been saying this and had SPFC advanced and gotten its currently injured players match-fit by the time the semifinals arrived, I could see SPFC troubling Palmeiras. At the same time, there are two factors to consider for you as a palmeirense: Abel has apparently found his ideal team after countless experiments and after getting reinforcements he wanted - and LDU is likely to attempt in Ecuador what it did to Botafogo: a bombardment. LDU had around 20 shots in the first half against Botafogo. LDU knows that Palmeiras is stronger than SPFC and will arrive at the semifinals far better than Botafogo did at the oitavas. Therefore, it's likely LDU will go for the win at home and try to hold a draw at Allianz Parque given Palmeiras is very unlikely not to score at home. And, LDU has physically strong players who are likely to foul a lot of yours. I still forecast Palmeiras advancing, but this may be an unexpectedly difficult mata-mata.
