I suppose if Obama was the first and only President to break a campaign pledge, this would be an issue of some importance. But it's not really. It is disappointing though, since he campaigned (and sincerely I thought) on a pledge to do things differently. You can't get more idfferent than putting something like this on C-SPAN. Too bad he is missing his chance.
I hereby move that this thread be renamed to: How will the Republicans have to suck it this time? - Health Care Reform Edition
Good point. That said, at least he could implore them to allow it -- and if they refuse, he can say "Hey, I tried, but it's their decision." But your point is well taken. Which, if true, makes this thread even more pointless.
Yes. And no there has never been a more open process. So did I miss something that said this wasn't going to be an open process? I like to think I pride myself keeping up somewhat. Has there been another official press briefing that confirmed that the process will be "secret?" The latest as of yesterday (Pelosi's press briefing): http://www.cspan.org/Watch/Media/20...Pelosi+DCA+Press+Briefing+on+Health+Care.aspx A member of the press asked about cspan's letter: Pelosi began to say that they "haven't reached a decision"....then she stopped and asked Van Hollen to take the question. Van Hollen said: "Let me just point out first that the health care debate and this piece of legislation has been subject to an unprecedented degree of public scrutiny and input. The original bill was put on the internet for the public to inspect. You then had a summer where you had thousands of hearings around the country and town meetings - both town hall meetings where people were showing up as well as telephone town hall meetings. You had a whole series of hearings. In fact, I think it's important to note there were over 100 hearings held by the chairmen of the three committees who are here with is today; heard from 181 witnesses; 83 hours of markup. The list goes on. So we will continue to have that kind of open process as we go through this next phase. There will obviously be discussions between members of the House and Senate but we will continue to keep the American people informed as we have in the earlier stages." Both Van Hollen and Pelosi stated that they don't even know if there will be a conference - "It's not clear whether or not that's going to happen." I personally think that there has been too much "input" by a public who doesn't know what the eff they're talking about when it comes to how health care is paid for and delivered in this country. This, in addition to the insurance and other health care related lobbyists who have been allowed to put the screws to this process have turned strong legislation into weaker legislation. I mean really. cspan has done an impeccable job so far. What they've done with their letter now is given more ammunition to those who hate Obama and his administration to distract from the importance of health care reform. I'm a bit disappointed. So if there is something that officially says this process will not be any more transparent than it has been, please prove it.
Re: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire. Oh dear. Here we go again with another in a long series of threads that cause Barb's vocabulary to grow in unwelcome directions.
Re: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire. I love that site: Angry Dragon And also Glenn Beck 5. An "anchorman" who leaks estrogen out of his man-tits and cries repeatedly but is still one of the most fair and balanced personalities on Fox News.
Re: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire. Yea, real funny. Can't you, for once, think about how the family of that poor girl that he raped and killed in 1990 feels when they see this type of light-hearted banter?
Well, if the administration gets to dictate how the legislature does its conference committee on legislation, then we've got some problems.
He can use that bully pulpit and publicly insist that they bring it to CSPAN. Sorry Obama apologists but this is a big deal. This was exclusivly promised and he has to at least attempt to fulfill this vow.
