Shinya Kadono opened the scoring in this battle of SoCal in the 19th minute but his team failed to hold out through halftime as Galaxy secured a penalty kick and Dejan Joveljic dispatched it. The remainder of regular time saw the Strikers bunker in.

Owen Lambe made it 2-1 to the Galaxy in the 80th minute, with a close-range finish and Joveljic sealed it with a second PK in the 83rd minute.

Kevin Garcia-Lopez had a late goal for the Strikers to pull within one goal, but they were unable to complete the rally.

Georgia Lions SC, an expansion team from the National Independent Soccer Association, has withdrawn from the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the league announced on Monday.
According to a NISA press release, the club was “still working through internal issues that prohibit it from taking the pitch in an effective manner.”
