It seems Cameroon beat Iran by the score of 2-1. Thats about all the information I have on the game as it was not broadcasted at all in Iran or outside of Iran by means of IRIB. I dont think there was even a signal comming out of Nigeria in the first place... So I dont think anyone else other than those who live in Nigeria can tell us more about this match... Anyway, Iran plays Ghana for the 3rd place on Monday...
Although both sides fielded decent teams, with Cameroon using the tournament as a warm up for the upcoming African Nations Cup, Iran were without the services of players who are part of the senior team but also play for the Olympic side. Most notable among them are Navidkia and Kameli, who would probably feature on a full squad senior team right now. Additionally, Iran also missed Mahdavikia (Hamburg), Hashemian (Bochum), as well as Karimi (Al Ahly) -- Mahdavikia and Karimi both due to injury. Although a loss is disappointing always, I don't think the result is that bad, particuarly with Nigerian fans claiming Iran had outplayed the Cameroon.
Do not forget we were also missng Javad Kazemian. But I am not too dissappointed from this result, Cameroon is a world class team, and reports say taht we "outplayed" them, so that is good news also.
Yes, I went to a Nigerian forum where the people had access to the game and they said that Iran outplayed Cameroon. Also the Nigerian Football Federation apologized for the bad reffing from the Nigerian reff of the match. It seems it was so bad that the fans in Nigeria were throwing trash and booing the reff!!! Its seems there were 2 counts of penaltys which the reff waved off. I really wish Nigeria would have sent out a signal so the game could atleast be televised. Seemed like an interesting match...
