This week, LFC.tv is presenting the 1960s.

The 1960s gave us a great manager in Bill Shankly.

The 1960s gave us great players like Roger Hunt, Ian Callaghan, Gerry Byrne, Emlyn Hughes, Ian St. John, Tommy Smith, Ron Yeats, and many others.

The 1960s gave us 3 First Division Championships, 2 FA Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, and 1 Second Division Championship/Promotion.

Legends To Receive World Cup Medals

Liverpool legends Gerry Byrne and Ian Callaghan are finally set to receive World Cup winners' medals today - 43 years after England won the trophy.

The duo will be honoured by Prime Minister Gordon Brown in a ceremony at Downing Street as they were members of the 11 reserves who did not figure when the Three Lions beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley in 1966.

Mr Brown said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Gerry Byrne, Ian Callaghan and the other players to Downing Street.

"It is absolutely right we recognise their role in England’s 1966 World Cup success – one of our finest sporting moments.

"They are real football heroes and have made this country proud."

Prior to the 1974 World Cup competition, only the players who played in the final received medals.

However, FIFA recently announced total of 14 additional medals will be supplied to each of the winning teams from the 1930 finals in Uruguay to the 1970 tournament in Mexico.

Other players set to be granted a medal from the victorious 1966 squad are Jimmy Greaves, John Connelly, Ron Springett, Peter Bonetti, Jimmy Armfield, Ron Flowers, Norman Hunter, Terry Paine and George Eastham.

As well as England's unused squad members, manager Sir Alf Ramsey will receive a posthumous medal 10 years after his death

Cally's Pride At Medal Award

Ian Callaghan today spoke of his immense pride at finally being awarded a World Cup winners' medal for his part in England's 1966 success.

The Anfield legend joined 10 other members of the Three Lions' triumphant squad at a ceremony in Downing Street on Wednesday where they were handed a medal by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

"It's been a hectic few days, but it really has been fantastic," said the former Liverpool winger, who holds the Reds' all-time record for most appearances.

"I know it has taken 43 years for us to be given our medals and I think over the years we just accepted there were only 11 medals for the lads who played in the final and we weren't going to get one.

"But it was fantastic to go to Downing Street and meet Gordon Brown. It was a first for me as I'd never visited there so to go and receive my medal off the Prime Minister was very special and exciting. All the lads are unbelievably proud.

"I think it's the greatest accolade you can get as a footballer - it's a World Cup winners' medal!"

"Gerry was my first ever roommate at Liverpool and we've been great friends ever since, so it was special to collect the medals with him," Callaghan said.

Later, the duo joined Jimmy Greaves, John Connelly, Ron Springett, Peter Bonetti, Jimmy Armfield, Ron Flowers, Norman Hunter, Terry Paine and George Eastham at Wembley as 1966 squad members were introduced to the crowd during the interval of England's 6-0 victory over Andorra.

"We were originally supposed to go out before the game, but London was chaos due to the Underground strike. We didn't arrive in time so it was arranged for us to go out at half-time," explained Cally.

"We lined-up in the tunnel while the England players came off after the first half and Fabio Capello stopped and shook hands and congratulated each of us.

"I'd never been to the new Wembley before, so to walk out and be introduced to the crowd was simply fantastic."

Callaghan added: "I do hope the current England squad can repeat our triumph of 1966. I would love to see Stevie G to receive a World Cup winners' medal as a Liverpool player."
