Just like Slot 2.0, Edwards 2.0 seems to have gone off the rails.

The club could do that, yes. And see it 100% blow up in their face:
    - fans go berserk
    - agent/player shit-disturb
    - our rep as a club goes down the toilet
    - we're no longer trusted by other current or potential players
    - aaaaand .... player leaves anyway after we've missed out on their skills for a long time.

Apart from that, sounds like a plan :)

I actually think selling Dom would be a smart move. I think he unbalances the team in a way.

great post - I'm not as ex-sanguined as many seem to be either.

i'm okay withkerkez and bringing back Kostas, with Frimpong and Bradley on th eother side, for next year. need to buy to replace Konate - even if Leoni is good enough to nail himself in once fit.
Do we keep Joe one more year just for back-up? He can play a few positions.... so maybe....

Joe Gomez played like 600 total minutes for us last season. He's not an option except in emergencies.

A club cannot demote a player as punishment for contract decisions

Under EU employment law and FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), a club must treat a player fairly and non‑discriminatorily. Sending a player to the reserves because he refused a contract or transfer is considered:

    • Retaliatory treatment

    • A breach of the duty of good faith

    • Potential constructive dismissal
The recent CJEU rulings in the Lassana Diarra cases reinforce that clubs cannot impose disproportionate or punitive sporting sanctions on players for exercising contractual rights.

These rulings emphasize that footballers are workers, and clubs cannot use sporting measures to coerce contract decisions.

FSG are acting as badly as Gillete/Hicks. And Slot is as bad as Woy was. You simply cannot deny it.

That's at least 3 starters which need to be replaced which could run in excess of 200/250M spend.

For me, buying Isak was a massive mistake. How did anyone envision him and Ekitike in the same starting 11 is beyond me. Neither plays out wide so you have to play 442. I realize Ekitike is out for a long time but once he comes back, what then?

Considering they purchased Frimpong and Kerkez i think the plan was to play 352.
You would then have Isak and Ekitike as your front two.
Which is why it's so surprising they didn't pay extra to get Guehi in or another similar CB

There is absolutely no comparison between FSG and Gillete/Hicks.
G/H bled the club to the point it was about to go bankrupt.
FSG invested and overhauled the club. Upgraded stadium and training facilities. Radically improved commercial arrangements and sponsorships.
Yes they work to a budget and don't spend like many would like but the club is rock solid financially without oil blood money.

I'd say recruitment was generally ok, but I still think we really lost the plot with Isak. That buy was a six-point game, in that we left Guehi at the alter and pursued a wildly over-priced player whose style didn't fit the club's needs. Considering both the loss of Guehi and the astronomical price and rather poor fit the Isak buy strikes me as the worst acquisition in the club's history.

Jesus bay mate, can we not wait until he's fully fit (and hopefully part of a well organized team) before we go into hyperbole mode?

So Konate’s talks are revived and Mo and Robbo reverse their decisions, right? ;)

Strong statement I know, but my point is even if Isak starts to click as I fully expect he will, losing Guehi is proving to be a disaster for us and Isak at best will be a solid 60 Million level striker we'll have to work around the midfield for to fit in properly. It's not Isak, its the style fit and opportunity cost.

I think as good as he is, he has the Gerrard-esque habit or running himself out of position trying to play hero ball. He makes some absolutely brain dead mistakes and if you can get $125m for him I think you have to think long and hard if he’s a player you build around or just a guy blocking Wirtz and putting strain on the team shape

Considering today's breaking news, FSG have practically redeemed themselves in my eyes.

    125m? Absolutely.
But we paid 60m for him and he's only got 2 years remaining on his current contract. We'd be lucky to get 60m for him.
They need to get his contact extended ASAP.
