Speaking on their trip to Dubai, Matip told the club website: 'It was something different. It's really nice to get some sun also and to spend some time with the team to get your head completely into the game and prepare everything you need to do.

'It's not similar but in Germany we are used to having kind of a winter break but it's not that long, of course. [It's been good] to recharge the batteries and get the focus back on. It's something nice.'
