Well, I missed this. Apparently Robert Lewandowski was the 2011-12 Bundesliga Player of the Year, as voted by the fans:

    http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/news/2011/0000213703.php

Gomez, Kagawa, and Ribery also received considerable votes. What do you guys think, was it justified? Personally, I think so. Robert has proven himself a world class striker in the last 12 months, and the vital speartip of Dortmund's attack.

    I think everyone missed this.

It would have been fine in the General Discussion Thread though........

I dont think he should have been the player of the year but he was good yes. Top 5 for sure. I would give the award to Marco Reus.

Can't argue with that opinion. Can't argue with Lewa being voted.

Please remember this was not a committee selection or anything like that.

It was a fan vote. Those can come out any way.

He definitely deserved it I watched him in our (VfL Wolfsburg) match against you and he is almost a handful to deal with, especially in the box, dangerous as hell.

But yes, most fan votes mainly wind up being nothing more than popularity contests, if it were done by the football writers/the media it probably could've been different, but either way Lewandowski earned it.

Think Reus deserved it more but understand general fan vote would go to player from Championship team. General votes rarely factor in the most intelligent of decisions.

Yes he is always dangerous around the box, on top of his 22 goals in the BL he led the Pokal in goals scored as well, thanks to his hattrick against FC Bayern in the final.

It's always nice to see someone stick it to Bayern............ again! Chelsea ruined the Bayern Munich backyard party in the Champions League Final at Allianz (on my 46th birthday at that! - 5/19/66) and now Bayern is DENIED AGAIN, this time in the Pokal by "The Boston Red Sox of German Football" (I call Bayern the "New York Yankees of German Football" so it only makes sense). Well Done!

Back-to-back AND a double, well done, now you can go for both a three-peat of the league and you get another shot at European glory, MAKE IT COUNT!!!

Reus was another contender IMO, alongside Podolski and Hummels who also deserve shouts, yet in the biggest matches (eg involving Dortmund, Bayern, BMG) I thought Lewandowski had more of an impact than Marco did.

    I completely disagree.

Without Reus's performance of last season, BMG winds up a mid-table team at best. Even if Lewandowski hadn't gotten hot, we still had Lucas Barrios on the bench.

Don't forget, we did win a title with Barrios as the lead striker too........

Dortmund definitely had the stronger bench, I agree. And therefore losing Lewandowski would not hurt the team as much as losing Reus would have hurt BMG. Im just talking about performance on the pitch though. Marco didnt really show up vs Dortmund and Bayern like he did against mid/lower table teams.

Consider this. Maybe Marco "didn't really show up" against us and Bayern because we knew all we had to do was STOP HIM.

If a club concentrated solely on stopping Lewa, Kagawa would kill them. Or maybe Kuba, KG or Goetze would.

Who was BMG's next most dangerous threat? Mike fugging Hanke??!

    Come on man...........

Reus was actually pretty great against Bayern...

Against Dortmund, he was marked out of the match against Hummels. As was everyone in the entire league all season. (with the exception of Schieber)

I thought that, but didn't have time to look it up. Thanks man!
