Before I start throwing recs out there is anyone into DnB/Jungle, breakbeat, liquid funk, fusion, acid jazz, or conscious hip hop? I have so much to share.
Admittedly not my cup of tea but I'm always down to check out anything worthwhile. Sadly, I only caught one hip hop act all week: Odd Future. Their show was pretty mental with lots of stage divers including a first time stage dive from Lance Bangs, aka the cameraman from Jackass who's always puking. Lyrically they seem to be on the violent fantasy tip. These are the other shows I can remember seeing: Kisses Freedy Johnston Waco Brothers Porcelain Raft !!! James Blake Asobi Seksu Brahms Cults Aislyn Davila 666 (only once, sadly) Pains of Being Pure At Heart Delicate Steve Surfer Blood Unknown Mortal Orchestra The Dead Milkmen (yes!! finally) Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger! BTW the badge is totally worthless. It got me into exactly one show (Tiger Shit) that otherwise I couldn't have gotten into had I just lined up. There was free Macallan scotch to be had every day with the badge but it wasn't worth the extra walk.
Regarding hip hop these are two of the best songs I've heard this year that haven't received much pub. Both of those albums are going to be heatseekers in a game imbued with pitiful acts. By "conscious hip hop", do you mean people like Mos Def, The Roots, Common, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, etc.? That's mostly the type of hip hop I listen to.
I've been on Odd Future for a while now. Pimping them to all my friends. BTW Davila's new record got reviewed on Pitchfork. 7.7/10.
P Diddy was on the side of the stage during Odd Future's set, apparently. One of the other hot acts at the festival was James Blake. Dunno that festivals are really appropriate for his music, I'm glad I was sitting down for it.
James Blake is good. I have one of his older EP's but haven't heard his new record which is suppose to be good. This is for you Ozzy: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2060909_2060910_2060892,00.html Ten Acts That Rocked South by Southwest - Davila666
Heh, nice. That said, I'm continually shocked that people pay almost $4,000 to attend that conference.
A great catalan group, Manel: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOjMDxX44o4"]YouTube - Manel - Boomerang (Amb lletra) (También traducida en la info)[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlMP-4LiuIE"]YouTube - Aniversari - Manel (Con letra en castellano)[/ame]
My friend that I went to sxsw with just got a free ticket to Primavera Sound. I am sooo jealous. She's gonna fly to Paris first and then BCN. Must be nice. BTW, the last night of the festival is the same night as the CL final. I warned her that the city is going to go apeshit if Barça wins. Also to send me some pics!
These girls from Costa Rica that I met once have a band and are playing Primavera. They're called Las Robertas and they're pretty good. Check them out. They're pretty cute also which doesn't hurt.
Hmm, not bad. They remind me of The Aislers Set, one of my favorite Bay Area indie bands from the late 90's [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP9Jeg5yN_o"]YouTube - The Aislers Set - Been Hiding[/ame]
My brother went to one of their shows last week and was just telling me about them the other day. I want to get a day pass for the festival. I want to see if I can skip work on a Thursday.
I'm trying to figure out who would be playing at Primevera if/when good news from Wembley came in. The worst would be bad news coming in whilst seeing someone depressing like Radiohead.
Shit it didn't realize Davila are playing Primavera as well. 2 different days on the Vice stage. One of the days is the CL final. I told the bassist I was going to lend him my Barca kit so he could wear it while they play. The line-up this year is massive.
My friend messaged me that PJ Harvey is playing right as the match starts and she's not gonna miss her set. I told her don't worry, you'll find out what happened in the final whether you want to or not.
Davila played right after PJ Harvey and right before Mogwai . That's a weird 3-some. One of my buddies was saying he made out with PJ Harvey . Nobody believes that but him in his dreams. Anyway here's a nice review of that day: http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/musi...-animal-collective-and-more-day-3/2011/06/09/
I'm not posting it here because of the song itself [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5irTX82olg"]YouTube - Shakira - Rabiosa ft. Pitbull‏[/ame] In other news, Gerard Pique just had a metal pole express delivered to his house.
The intro is great whatever instrument it is played on. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSByjqMGtaU[/ame]
