I'll only be fine with it if we add good players instead of Fabregas. Like I've said before, if we passed up the chance to sign Fabregas only to sign Loic Remy and Morgan Schneiderlin, then I'll join the Wenger Out bandwagon. We were talking about a top player who wanted to come play for Arsenal, for less than 30 million quid (and for less than we sold him for, IIRC) and we turned him down. It's only justifiable if you can substantially improve the team in other areas. I'm not mad at Fabregas for going to Chelsea, but I'm absolutely furious at Arsenal for letting him go there. Even Fabregas saw going to Chelsea as a consolation prize.
Exactly. I don't think anyone around here is deifying Cesc (I certainly ain't), but recognizing what he could have offered to Arsenal. Who knows. Maybe Arsenal will sign a bunch of amazing players (at the last possible second) before next season. But if we sign a bunch of "meh" players while Cesc sits on the bench at Chelsea and 100m in cash sits in some bank account someplace, yeah, I won't be happy.
There are Chelsea players I've had a hard time hating. Drogba was one of them. Fabregas will be another.
I think our transfer team believes they can obtain these players but they, in reality, cannot. That's where I'm coming from. They turned down depth and are going to bring in cheap options. See all this talk about Vela. Its a cheap option so it's perfect for Arsenal.
You'd think after signing Ozil last summer there'd be less bitching about our transfer activity in early June the next year. I'm going to give AW the benefit of the doubt and assume that he has a plan.
Cesc was not a desperately needed player but if he was signed, he would have brought whole new attacking options and give us more depth. a shame.
I really didn't want Cesc. He is surplus to requirements for us. Arteta replacement and a new striker. That is what I want. Oh and RB if Bac leaves.
That would be very idiotic, since he is pretty much the only Barça player left who can replace the declining Xavi I think they did try to keep him but he refused any offers, so now they are trying to save their own asses
Just confirms Barca as the classless football club we already knew them to be. Just wish him good luck, thank him for his service and be done with it ffs
Ay, yes, that's what always happens. Expecting more from a club means you should be supporting another club. Come on.
last time, he is not at all like Xavi. He has not shown that. Stop thinking he is. they are classless as heck, but they are right. that too. Looks like some other stuff was happening there.
Disagree. Ozil was an opportunity that materialized in the last few days of the window last summer because Madrid wanted to buy Bale. All it proves is that Arsenal are willing to spend money. It doesn't prove that the transfer team is actually capable of executing a big money transfer outside of unusual circumstances. That's part of why this is so irritating. We haven't seen the ability to get a top player outside of bizarre circumstances. Here, this was an absolutely crazy circumstance: a top player who wanted to come to Arsenal and Arsenal was his first choice and would improve Arsenal 's attack. I can't remember this ever happening. That's why I'm saying that Wenger has to execute now, and the benchmark he has to be held to for this summer is "can he sign someone better than Fabregas?"
Giving someone the benefit of the doubt over a fluke rather than taking into account their years of non-performance - good idea.
