I thought the federal laws passed after 2000 mandated them. The whole question is what they cover. In Ohio, GOPs are trying to get them to not apply in your situation. Here in NC, we've had 'em, and they cover the county. You technically, I guess, can vote anywhere by prov., then they check out the precinct you are registered in.
There have been reports of fist fights breaking out in Troy, MI due to lack of parking and traffic congestion. Of course the people fighting are Bush and Kerry supporters. I won't get a chance to vote until this afternoon. Regardless of the outcome of the Presidential election (which exit polling my indicate the winner by 5:00 PM EST), there are other things on the ballot that need my vote like Prop 2 in Michigan. Eventhough it might pass, I want to make sure my "no" vote is counted.
I don't honestly think it's going to be apparent till this eveing. Instead of inundating myself with the polls and results and crap, a friend and I are going to go see Team America: World Police. Hopefully when we leave the theater, it will look like there is a new president.
Thanks BarbaraJune, Superdave, Needs, etc. Her line is busy, so my guess is that she's on hold for this number. It's possible our pollworkers were caught off guard, since I was #50 at 7:30, and in 2000 #50 got there around 10:00 a.m. Or she's being disenfranchised. We'll find out.
What was Prop 2 again? I must have voted on it a few weeks ago, but I don't remember what it was about.
I should point out that, in our case, the other guy who wasn't in the book was of a different major national party than my wife. So the people in the canvasser's office seem to be equal opportunity ********-ups, at least at this early stage.
I think it was the gay marriage amendment. Or was it that really confusing thing about local control over gambling?
Prop 2 for Michigan is to add banning gay marriage in the State constitution even though there is already a law in place banning it. Plus the wording they use is vague and could affect same-sex benefit recipients that work in the state. I see it as nothing more than hate legislation and should be struck down. But I think Michigan is about to show me how back-watered and bigotted it really is. Fvckin' bumkins.
Hey, who took In The Net and replaced him with this milktoast? Let me proudly say, I completely agree with ITN. This year we moved from downtown to a sleepy little suburb. No wait at 7:30 am. One other noticeable difference was the much smaller ballot, AND the method of voting. They gave you a black pen, and you filled in the ovals like an Iowa Basics Test. Downtown, we always had those butterfly ballots with the little punch thingy that created a mountain of chads.
Prop 1 is for local control over new gaming, except for the current casinos in place along with the Indians.
Man, there are a lot of arlington voters in here. I voted at 23rd street this morning. Took almost an hour and a half, but the crowd was calm, people were joking around. but when I was finished, i walked outside and the line was gone. Lots of foreign press there though filming us though, Danish TV, Deutsch Welt and some other tv stations were there.
I'm also curious as to what other people's voting methods are e.g. the punch cards etc. Where I am in CT, its that lever machine, where you flips the switches and pull the lever. Nice and easy and accurate. Hard to skrew up. But I'm sure they would down in FL.
Is there any way this could possibly be a good sign for Bush? The Republicans have to be sh!tting themselves over the high turnout.
Arrived at the poll at 6:50. The line was about an hour and a half, maybe a few minutes less. Turnout was very high. This was my first time in this new precinct and all worked out. I just moved and my drivers license had a different address, but I showed picture ID and my name was in the books, so no problem. There were a couple others around me having problems. Discussions in line were cordial even with the right wing blog addict in front of me who managed to bring up Stolen Honor, the Ten Commandments, trial lawyers, social security, voter registrations with the box checked, and abortion in response to my talking about the Braves, the Red Sox, the TPC at East Lake and the Masters. (There was another guy egging him on). If I'd been thinking clearer I would have asked them who they liked in the Galaxy--Wizards matchup and enjoyed an entire hour of silence.
Whatever happened to good old fashioned pencil and paper? Us third-world dwellers are still using that. It takes ages but I've never heard of a pencil making a hanging chad.
Why? Because he wasted a vote on Kerry instead of casting one for whom he wanted to? I don't get how people see it as a wasted vote.
Bush must be defeated His evil gang unseated His base of power deleted His energy depleted Bush must be defeated Further services unneeded His departure speeded There's a land but you don't lead it Bush must be defeated The rose garden weeded A new frontier re-seeded We'll no longer let you bleed it Bush must be defeated This mistake not be repeated Our desires not go unheeded We will not twice be cheated Bush must be defeated His goodbye coffee heated His inaugural spats uncleated His White House bed short-sheeted Bush must be defeated His welcome's been exceeded Successors must be greeted The imposter excreted (www.danbern.com)
Polls opened here at 6:00 a.m. My wife and I got there at 6:10 a.m. and waited in line for about 5 minutes. We signed in and voted in a matter of about another 5 minutes. No problems, no snafus, at least at this early juncture.
No. It was actually because he weighed all of the consequences of making his vote, was faced with a difficult decision, he did what he thought was best in this election for his country, and then he posted his dilemma on here so that others could stand in judgment of his decision. A vote made is never a vote wasted.
Because he's done his part to save the country, that's why. I voted Kerry in the big race and third party in the 2ndary races, because while I think that getting a viable 3rd party is important, right now we are moving toward complete disaster with the Boy King in power. Libertarians, Greens, moderate Republicans, true Conservatives, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Reformists, Natural Law sympathizers, Constitution Party members, and everyone else who understands that needs to stand together to get through this crisis. This is a war for the soul of America, and in a time of war we must unite against a common enemy. That day has arrived. Tomorrow, we can squabble over philosophical differences. But today, we stand for the future of our country. I salute Father Ted.
