The Charleston Battery heads to Antigua for a pair of USL PRO games this weekend. The Battery will play Antigua Barracuda twice at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium; the games are set for Friday and Sunday with both matches kicking off at 7:00 PM. The Battery (9-3) enters the games on the back of a 3-1 home win versus the Harrisburg City Islanders in a game played last Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium.
Both games will be broadcast live on 1340 AM the official broadcast partner of the Charleston Battery with the pre-game match build-up starting at 6:45 PM.
Jose Cuevas, Navion Boyd and Ryan Richter all tallied as the Battery defeated Harrisburg on Saturday night. Boyd’s goal was his first for the Battery; he also recorded an assist on Cuevas’s goal.
The win kept the Battery in second position in the USL PRO standings five points adrift of the league-leading Orlando City Lions; the Battery has played one game fewer than Orlando.
The weekend games versus Antigua Barracuda will complete the four-game season series. The Battery defeated Antigua 4-0 on May 4 and 3-0 on June 15 in the first two matches with both games being played in Charleston.
Antigua’s last USL PRO match was a 2-0 defeat suffered versus Orlando City in Orlando on June 17.
Goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra’s loan from Major League Soccer has been extended through the weekend so Dykstra will be available for selection in Antigua. Dykstra has played eleven games for the Battery in 2012 earning six shutouts and a GAA of 0.64.
The Battery’s next home game is on Friday July 6 versus the Charlotte Eagles at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island.

the boys should be confident going into this trip. That said, anything can happen. its always tough playing on the road, refs, unforeseen injuries, and playing two matches in three days add to the uncertainty.

Hope the guys have a good trip and come back with six points.

thanks to DC United for extending Andrew Dykstra's loan thru the weekend. Hope our keeper situation can be resolved soon. Wando HS and the Academy's Joseph Wichman got called up last Saturday, for that night's game, as back up.

I saw him out on the pitch at half time. Kevin started training with Dusty this week and said he was hoping to train with the team next week. I imagine he will be available for the Charlotte series July 6 and 7

I kinda wish Dane hadn't done his little goal celebration right in front of their bench when they were at Blackbaud just a couple weeks ago....they're going to be gunning for us to get some payback, they were really pissed off when he did that. And I assume the Caribbean island countries have their own private rivalries going amongst themselves. Jamaicans and Antiguans fight for the Caribbean Championship, World Cup qualifying, etc.

Orlando drew against Pittsburgh Saturday as well (1-1) and Rochester lost to Harrisburg 2-1

A Battery win tonight over Antigua will bring the Battery within one point of first place with a game in hand over Orlando.
