I think it shows sound judgement and strong decision making skills.

 

It shows he’s not prone to sentimental attachments. He could push the button if he had to.

 

My take on Kristol claiming Shapiro was the clear best choice also just smacked of old school GOP elitism. A certain incredulence that a Midwestern governor - didn't really matter which one - could be up to the job. Farm kid. No-name college education. A yokel. That said, he was honest enough to admit that the list of people making historicallty dumb claims about the wisdom of VP choices is long, and his name is on it.

I look forward to the roll-out today (supposedly Shapiro will be there), and for the campaigning to really get going in earnest. I have to assume the deep dive into Walz's background isn't gong to last very long. I don't think there's much to dredge up. But mostly because it's Harris' positions and messages that matter. Walz's job is to forcefully and compellingly restate them to groups he's deemed well-positioned to communicate with. From what I've seen, he should be pretty good at that.

If Trump wins, it won't be Walz that America voted against...

 

Kristol's family is pretty much GOP/conservative royalty. I don't think it's GOP elitism, but more tired thinking. That said, a lot of the Bulwark set are as I said, guys stuck in the 00s and wishing it was the 80s again. I like some of them, Tom Nichols for instance, but there are times where it's best to treat them like a toddler, say that's nice and just move on.

Walz is a fantastic pick given his background (Running a gay-straight alliance in the late 90s in the Midwest is remarkable), the fact that he simply points out that the GOP is weird, and to me, a guy who has lived in the Midwest his entire life, he reminds me of some of my family members growing up. Affable, kind, fun, and not afraid to set you straight when he has to. Guarantee he'd be lighting up if he hadn't seen you in ages and treats you like an adult.

 

You think that highlighted bit scares me?

 

I don't think @Khan is crazy. I liked Kelly to help sure up Arizona, I didn't like Shapiro cause the harassment issue but really the anti-Arab article response was giving me bad vibes. I don't think this pick was about swing states. I think this went down to Harris looking for a good campaigner that she could work with. And we you really look it at Walz gives off the same positive masculinity/Dad energy that Harris had with Biden. Both Biden and Walz are the dad you call when your car breaks down and you don't know why. They will talk you through it on the phone while getting dressed to come pick you up. After working 3.5 years with Joe, Kamala had to speed date and find that connection for her VP. Walz clearly gives her that vibe. Strategist would say pick a guy that can help you win, she went with a guy than can help her govern.

I was voting blue regardless, this ticket feels solid and covers a lot of bases. The Dems have decided that rather than push to get more convincibles, lets try and get out base white hot and get them to show up. I pray to the ancestors that this will work.
