Well they went with the safe pick. I can't blame them after taking the big risk of dumping the sitting President, why take more risk in picking the gay dude as VP. Hopefully Walz can use his VP status to get the Democrats to cut red tape at federal level. Walz is a permitting reform champion:Last year, Minnesota passed a law mandating 100% clean electricity by 2040.But due to red tape, they were projected to miss the target by decades. So they passed permitting reform, which will cut overall project approval time by 50%. pic.twitter.com/RC5SlgiuRR— Alec Stapp (@AlecStapp) August 6, 2024
The Never Trumpers are best paid lip service and then to be ignored. Something Biden did and something that I think Harris will do. They're still Reagan Republicans for a reason. Last person I'm taking insight from is Bill Kristol, which should say everything. Or Joe Scarborough, a guy who got his feet wet with Gingrich. And they don't understand Dems in general. They're guys whose heyday was the 80s and 00s. Their idea of Dems is people like Mondale and Dukakis.
IOW, you gave the algo the data it needed to confirm your preferences. Its a popularity contest, not the debate club from high school. Indeed. But its even better if he can help win the popularity contests in the swing states that matter.
You (and I assume, your bride) were already gonna vote Harris. IOW, he's preaching to the choir, so whatever he says is gonna appeal to you.
What? In effect, you stated that Walz would help deliver an adjoining state, and magically transform the rust belt, even though there were others on the shortlist that have an equal claim to your view. If you don't like the summation, then discuss it. Defend your view, rather than attacking me; I expect that from others here, not you.
Na. Sykes is wealthy suburban Milwaukee. He is often wrong about the blue and purple part of Wisconsin, at least as long as I have been listening. He has the fallacy that he does not understand the Black community, specifically.
Manchin and AOC approve. My statement on Vice President Kamala Harris choosing Governor @Tim_Walz as her running mate: pic.twitter.com/bUON01Plsx— Senator Joe Manchin (@Sen_JoeManchin) August 6, 2024 Vice President Harris made an excellent decision in Gov. Walz as her running mate.Together, they will govern effectively, inclusively, and boldly for the American people. They won’t back down under tight odds, either - from healthcare to school lunch.Let’s do this 💪🏽 https://t.co/9vttVTC39Z— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 6, 2024
Walz is a fine choice, a lot of the people mentioned would have been. It also helps that I haven't been paying attention to the VP stuff because, well the last month was kind of exhausting. VP picks may not lift you much, but they can definitely drag you down (Something that Trump is learning). That said, I've said that electing Biden was calling your dad when you screwed up. Walz is the uncle we look forward to seeing at family gatherings because he's fun but also won't hesitate to call you out.
My wife is a Dem-leaning independent but she was very disillusioned with Biden. More to the point, she's not a committed Dem like me. So the fact that Walz grabbed her attention before he was even a VP candidate was a bit notable to me. I think he's the sort of politician Dem-leaning centrist-ish independents like my wife are attracted to.
Wasn't Tim Kaine also the uncle we look forward to seeing at family gatherings, and that's why he was one of the most popular Vice Presidents in history (*)? (*) that's sarcasm, because Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine lost in 2016. I'm worried that there are some similarities. Tim Kaine was a safe choice in 2016 and people had a fun time making goofy memes for him and then we had four years of President Trump. Lots of Dems love the meme-ability of Walz, but some people may be old enough to remember Tim Kaine: America’s Stepdad. Just a thought. https://t.co/eN5mCjDfaK— Garrett Haake (@GarrettHaake) August 6, 2024
Where was this research before the pick? Dude is a United flip flopper. Breaking: Vance’s campaign staff released their opposition files to throw into question Gov Walz’s true MLS loyalties. Which United does he really support?! pic.twitter.com/yBhBMfpVxi— Wes Burdine (@MnNiceFC) August 6, 2024
That rather ignores the differences bewteen the top of the ticket in 2016 versus now. Not to mention any differences that exist in how Trump is viewed now, as opposed to then. Calling Walz a safe choice strikes me as just plan wrong. The safe choice would be someone like Kelly, because he's more moderate.
But you don't understand. Walz is a terrible pick. As a White male who has both a military and rural background, one who is from a midwestern state, he is terrible. Because that state went blue, he has no ability to reach voters outside of Minnesota and bring absolutely zero to the ticket. And that we didn't know about him as a possibility when the poll was put up should tell you how absolute trash he is as a pick. This pick means that Harris is going to lose to Trump.
Hillary unfortunately had several years of attacks against her. Also, it’s not 2016. I should also add that again, the GOP is weird. Like off putting weird.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/08/06/5-takeaways-harriss-pick-tim-walz-her-vp-nominee/ Just highlights. 5 takeaways from Harris’s pick of Tim Walz as her VP nominee 1. Harris went for broad appeal over swing-state appeal Harris had an unusual array of seemingly good options with strong electoral records in more important states, including Shapiro, Kelly and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D). She instead went with someone from a somewhat competitive state who will ideally appeal more broadly to middle America, White working-class voters and even rural voters. 2. A ‘weird’ and viral audition The unusual audition process seemed to play to Walz’s strengths. While Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — another contender — has long distinguished himself as one of the party’s most gifted messengers, Walz’s blitz of media appearances quickly gained him prominence and a following among Democrats on social media and elsewhere. ... Perhaps the most striking aspect of Walz’s rise is how he seemed to almost spontaneously spur the most popular Democratic talking point of the moment: that the GOP ticket is “weird.” Walz invoked that word on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on July 23, and it’s been a mainstay ever since. 3. A blend of folksiness with a recent left-leaning record While Walz got his start as a red-district Democrat and speaks the language of swing voters, his record as governor has trended toward progressive policies. Minnesota Democrats have had a remarkable level of success in passing such policies lately, despite their narrow legislative majorities. ... Among the key parts of Walz’s record as governor: universal school lunches, universal gun background checks and a “red flag” law, enshrining abortion rights into state law, protecting rights to gender-affirming care, restoring the rights of convicted felons to vote, legalizing recreational marijuana, and allowing undocumented Minnesotans to apply for driver’s licenses. 4. Walz’s electoral record tops Vance’s [Walz] won the governorship by 12 points in 2018 in a good election for Democrats, two years after presidential then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won the state by just 1.5 points. And in his 2022 reelection race, with Democrats facing tougher winds, he matched Biden’s seven-point victory from two years earlier. Walz did better in the rural areas of the state in his 2018 race, while he relied more on the Twin Cities and areas around Duluth, Fargo-Moorhead and Rochester in 2022. He still carried some counties he had represented in southern Minnesota. 5. Notable tidbits about Walz’s selection It’s the second consecutive Democratic ticket (after Biden-Harris in 2020) to not feature anyone with an Ivy League degree — which hadn’t happened since 1984. (Walz attended little-known Chadron State College in Nebraska and got his master’s degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Harris attended Howard University and got her law degree from the University of California, San Francisco.) Trump and Vance are both Ivy League-educated.
Nice job! Do you also pick lottery numbers after they've already been drawn? I got some news for you, you won't get any of the prize money if you do it that way.
