    Kenny wants to be involved

Sheffield United’s Paddy Kenny feels that promotion to the Premiership would make it hard for Brian Kerr to ignore his claims for a place in the Irish squad and that he is willing to help in the Euro Qualifying campaign.

Halifax born Kenny has yet to represent the country of his father and the dream of making his Irish dad a proud man is something that drives Kenny on.

“I know what it would mean to my dad and that is one of the main reasons why I have said it would mean so much to me to play for Ireland,” revealed Kenny.

“Who knows what Brian Kerr is thinking, but he has had a few problems with his goalkeepers of late, so you never know. There are some big games coming up for Ireland in June and if there are any problems, I will be ready and waiting for the call.”

With Dean Kiely now retired, Kerr’s third choice ‘keeper is West Brom Joe Murphy who has only featured in a handful of first team games this season. Kenny knows that if United can achieve promotion on Monday, it will be hard for Kerr to ignore him if he is playing regular Premiership football.

“If I was playing regular premiership football next season, it would do my chances of an Ireland call up no harm. I have stated that it is my ambition to play for my country and I am not going to get upset because I have not got a call up. All I can do is continue to perform at my present levels and maybe Brian Kerr will have a look at me.”

Well that answers a few questions, as good as Murphy is, you'd have to favour Kenny as Murphy is still a reserve, I'd like to see him get called up.

Yes! Kenny should be giving a chance.

Bye the way! what do you think of Cardiff City's
Irish contingent, Boland, Kavanagh & Whalley.
Now that they will be playing 1st Div Football next season is anyone of these good enough to break into the Squad?

I know Kavanagh had a good season again and Willy Boland is a tough tackling tireless worker in Midfield. Don't now much about Whalley though part from that he was a squad member some season's ago.

Kavanghs already been capped, was ages ago, even managed to score for the senior team I think. If it weren't for his age he'd have a great chance, but if he plays like he did in the play off final every week he has to be worth a shout even if he is in his 30ths, don't know about the others really.

I thought he wanted to play for England?

I suppose there'll be fat chance of that now that Sheff are not being promoted.

I've only seen him a few times this year, and while he's not bad, he's no Given or Kiely. I think Murphy might the man for the long run, but it'll be a few years before he hits his prime.

Also, is it me or does Kenny look real fat for a professional footballer?

It's not just you, I'd favour Kenny over Murphy for the moment, until either Murphy or Hoult moves, as he really needs to get first team football. Murphy is the future though, he really is amazing, very very impressive anytime I've seen him.
