Lea Khelifi from PSG has replaced Amandine Henry who has now missed the last two camps with injuries.

    Elisa De Almeida caps:
    A 1
    B 2

France beat Serbia 6-0. Scored two goals early. Bizzare subs. Boring press conference. Only interesting point was Diacre saying she subbed Gauvin at half-time because she was not happy with her performance. Katoto came in her place and did well enough.

Some interesting news coming up with Wendie Renard's book in a couple of days:
She recalls a conversation with current coach Corinne Diacre when she got told she would not be captain any more : ""Tu n’as pas le niveau international" "Tu es une joueuse comme les autres"

Clearly Diacre has her own way to communicate with the players. She does not tip-toe around the problems. I mean telling Renard she does not perform at the international standard level is a really strong criticism and adding you are a player like the others ie not above the other is also really heavy and strong.
No wonder the Lyon players do not like her.

Obviously it was a private convo between Renard and Diacre and it explains in detail why Renard was stripped of the captaincy. Publicly Diacre said she was removing the captaincy from Renard so that she would concentrate on her own performance and not on evereything else.

This conversation came after the Euro 2017 in Netherlands where France lost in the QF to England with Renard not involved in that game. For context, coach Echouafni who would be sacked after the tournament did warn people off the record that some players have become big headed and complacent in the run up to the tournament.

    Interesting read
France WNT reminds me of Spain MNT in the 90's. A more balanced league would have prevented that. Let's hope the increase of Tv Coverage and the new naming of the league will convince more french clubs to invest more.

I am not totally sold on Diacre though.

Two pages on Renard's book in today's l'Equipe. We can read Diacre did not try to massage Renard's ego, far from it. This is her usual management form.

Some players react well to it like Asseyi who worked her ass off after being dropped and criticised. Others seem to throw their toys out of the pram.

There actually was a meeting on monday between Wendie Renard, FFF president Noël LeGraet and Corinne Diacre. They discussed about what Renard said about Diacre in her book mostly.
Diacre claimed things must had been said and she assured this meeting closed the chapter between those two; they both agreed to move on.

Also to be noted, coach assistant Phillipe Joly stepped down to his post

Diacre doesn’t seem to be a people person; she threw ELS under the bus in her criticism on what went wrong at the WC/doesn’t get along with Lyon management even though so many of her players come from that club.
Her WC squad choices or starters were puzzling; she didn’t pick Katato even she led the French league in scoring with an impressive 22 goals for last season, and that could be a reason why her PSG team mate, the very promising Diani, didn’t have a good WC either.
There’s been enough of critique of Thinny from previous posters as starter at the important CAM & as well as why she has so much faith in Gauvin at central fwd, even though for instance, she’s only scored 7 goals so far for the season at Montpelier, which is on par with her team mate, Lena Petermann(who hasnt been able to make her own German NT in years).
Of course, can’t blame everything on Diacre. This is just a debating point, but France has had some incredible talent for several years now at the youth level, yet have not been able to for fill that level as adults. Some of those names; Toletti, Lavogez, Tarriue(sorry on the misspellings)even the Cascarino sisters haven’t lived up to the promise they had as teens.
I also feel that despite the phenom success of Lyon, its been a bit of a liability for the NT. That club often finds itself with over loaded schedule in May(both the CL & F Cup finals along with regular league bouts) when it’s 8/9 NT’s could use a breather for an upcoming/major summer tournament. And then you got to wonder if even Lyon plays in very competitive games as most opponents usually just ‘park the bus’ in front of them(I’ve even seen this in the CL). Got to wonder too if Lyon with its apparent ‘winning is everything’ attitude, knows how to bring up its youth players as now the current hot shot, Mallard(top scorer from last summers Euro u19) just stays on the bench with almost no playing time(in similar vein; D Cascarino, mvp of the 2016 u20 WC, so far hadn’t lived up to the hype).

on the other hand, Guardian voted 10 of France’s players at the top 100(tied for 2nd with England)including 3 in the top 10(one more than even the US). Diacre got now more than an year to work with till the 2021 Euros(so she’ll have ample time twhip those once promising youth into form as well too).

Some players come and some other players go. This is the cruel rule in mordern football.
Lavogez, Toletti, Tarrieu(??), Estelle Cascarino might not have succeeded to reach the national team (again/yet) but Karchaoui, Delphine Cascarino, Griedge M'Bock, Geyoro, Diani actually did; Katoto will for sure! according to Diacre's words.
Besides we are talking about very young players whose aren't even in their peak age of form (situated around 25). Hopefully, U19 France winning the Euro last year showed they still are many more to come : Lakrar, Baltimore, Becho, Dufour, Revelli, Kazadi, Lerond (just only 2 of them are playing for OL by the way). In short all those young girls will have plenty other tournaments to prove their worth.

About Diacre, her choices and management were highly debatable, no doubt about it. France's overall tournament was utterly trash; though they produced their best soccer against the USWNT in the 2nd half in my opinion. I never saw a USWNT game where they had to switch into a 5 defenders formation but well I follow women's soccer since 2010.
But I agree to the fact we have to deal with Diacre once more so there's no use to complain.

Are you talking about the US switching to a 5 back? They did it fairly often (usually as practice in changing formation) during the lead-up to the WWC in the 2 years prior. But Ellis was criticized for using it in the France game since the US generally played better defense with a 4 back and a higher press.

France blew the WC match against the U.S. when they gave up that stupid first goal--M'Bock the chief culprit as Rapinoe's free kick somehow rolls past 4 sets of legs and into the net--and so France had to chase the game, which is never good.

    Thanks

I was talking few posts ahead about our french youngsters. Its seems the only "major" tournament for France national teams this summer is the U20 World Cup.

And potentially the U17 World Cup in India if we qualify, but we need to get through the Elite Round and then finish top 3 at the Euros in Sweden.

I am gonna attend 10 of all those games at all level, it should be interesting.

Hmm...finishing top 3 at the U17 Euros...hmm ok, let's assume potentially there will be Spain and Germany in the podium as usual, that doesn't leave many place!!

Nope and beating England in England next month as well as Slovakia and Wales is not gonna be easy. At least three of their players have made their FA WSL debut this season and one even scored for Chelsea against West Ham last week.

I think I saw that player. The one who scored the last goal against West Ham. Think they said she’s 16 years old. But she’s tall as heck!
