Well of course she is, the only purpose of her temporarily stepping aside was for Diacre to get sacked.
Sonia Haziraj our u-20 coach has declared interest. The FFF has already auditioned Jocelyn Gourvennec who is an ex pro who was coached in the men's game. The FFF hopes to get Thierry Henry interested in the job.
The FFF is looking for ... anybody ! Thierry Henry; lol what a joke, has refused the job, ouf !!! If the FFF takes the risk of nominate a coach with no experience in women football, i think i would prefer Hervé Renard who at least has won something in his carreer. Haziraj the U20 women 's coach? i don"t trust her, i doubt she has real abilities to coach at high level : games played during the U20WC last year were so poor, compared to those played under the previous coach Gilles Eyquem. Haziraj has no credibility to coach the NT, it can"t work. In the list of potential (french) coaches, Bompastor/Abily and Precheur are the best. The first two have extended at OL until 2025. So Precheur ? Amandine Miquel is very good at coaching her club Stade de Reims, she has been getting more than decent result for year with likely the youngest squad of the D1 Arkema. But she is not interested...
The latest from the papers is it will be either Herve Renard if Saudi Arabia accept to release him from the Men team job. Eric Blahic and Sonia Haziraj could be part of the staff. The alternative would be Jocelyn Gourvennec and Eric Blahic could also be his humber two. They have worked together in the past in the men's game.
Lots of reports for Renard: https://theathletic.com/4329031/2023/03/20/herve-renard-france-women/ This is a great hire for France if true. He is free of all of the drama around French WSOC and a proven tournament winner, who will have a very motivated group. I think this will make me revise my expectations for France.
I agree it is a positive sign, he will have no history with any player, he might bring back the old generation as they are all now saying they want to come back. On another note Cesar Mavacala has been charged by the French police for shakedown by an organised gang. It is related to PSG and getting players contract signed or extended by them. Mavacala is the agent for Diani and Katoto as well as Diani's partner. The other side of this is related to the France NT team, where phone conversation between him and Aminata Diallo suggested they were putting a plan in place to get rid of Corinne Diacre. There is also another conversation with the press officer where he suggest that Diani and Katoto would not go to the Euros if Hamraoui was selected.
Herve Renard officially named as the new manager. First squad conference coming at 12 CET, expecting 27 players named as he only ahs 4 games to prepare for the world cup.
First squad (26 players) named by Herve Renard: G: Peyraud-Magnin, Chavas, Picaud D: Renard, De Almeida, E. Cascarino, Cissoko, Lakrar, Perisset, Doucoure, Karchaoui, Bacha M: Geyoro, Jean-Grancois, Fazer, Dali, Toletti, Le Garrec, Majri F: Le Sommer, D. Cascarino, Baltimore, Asseyi, Mateo, Bussy, Sarr Le Sommer is back, Henry is not (injured?), Hamraoui is not. I had hoped Lavogez would return after her great NWSL season with Kansas City, but then she tore ACL in October. Prominent players missing (injuries/other?): Katoto, Diani, Torrent, Palis, Bilbault, Tounkara, Malard, Mbock Bathy
That's a big turnover in the roster. Who do you think is advising Coach Renard? He can't be too familiar with the women's pool, can he?
Henry injured but will be called back, same as Katoto, Diani and M'Bock Bathy. Hamraoui, Torrent, Pallis, Bilbault, Tounkara and Malard are not in the coach's plan basically. That list might evolve depending on injuries in the D1 Arkema this week-end, Diani was the 27th on the list and Perisset is a question mark right now.
Well Malard is in the plans, I was wrong. She was called up when Bussy got injured 1644406134076317707 is not a valid tweet id That first XI was too unbalanced and did not work out. Renard said he had pre-planned three changes at h-t, but had to change his plans due to the first half performance. Matéo, Geyoro and Cascarino went it for Majri, Baltimore and Asseyi. Colombia went up 2-0 from their second set piece goal on the day before France decidee to play with a Le Sommer double and Cascarino double, plus a late Geyoro goal. We will probably see the best available XI against Canada and then if fit see Katoto, Diani, Henry and M'Bock Bathy in July away to Ireland.
Diani is out for about six weeks having had a operation for her broken collarbone. She also had a four games ban with one game suspended in the League for her red card v Montpellier. Katoto and M'Bock no news from their rehab. Henry has a knee injury, expected six weeks out since the 6th of March. The post game with the players.
Wow, basically France will play the WWC 2023 deployed of their best players and the new coach will have just 3 months to prepare that tournament! Frankly, @shlj, how do you see France's chance at this Wolrd Cup? Of course is still possible that they'll do better than when they were much heralded as one of the favourites and they were anyway crashing out in the early stages...
I think the FFF is placing the players in the best working conditions they ever had. All the teams want to win, only one does in the end. I don't think it will be us.
Herve Renard has called up a 27th player for the Canada game. Right-back Jade Le Guilly who is a newbie, she was with the u-23 in the Netherlands. 1644763423673122819 is not a valid tweet id
First success for Hervé Renard ! 5 - 2 against Colombia 2 - 1 against Canada Without Diani, Katoto, Henry, Mbock, not bad ! With different 11-staters and a lot of replacements, Hervé Renard saw the players. The team against Canada was obviously stronger than the first one. Delph. Cascarino what else, POTM against COL, POTM against CAN. ELS very good games for her come back (but she perfectly knows that she likely won't be a starter if Katoto/Diani come back fit at the CM). Anyway, the most important thing for her is to feel confident and appreciated. She needs nerness with the staff, that's Diacre never understood. Clara Matéo, talent, but it's difficult to know what is her best position : she's not a striker, i am not sure if she's a real winger, i feel that she would be good in the heart of the game as a 10 Geyoyo, Toletti, O. Jean François, OK even if i think they can do better.. De Almeida at right back very good (maybe better than Eve Perisset), she also can play CB. E. Cascarino as a CB, she's better at left back but she did the job. It's nice to see how these 2 players improved since 1 year. Karchaoui, Bacha, good but i feel them not at their top. Wendy far better in the second game against CAN : tackles and 2 huge saves. She had a part of responsability on the 2 goals scored by Colombia. Nice goal from Léa Le Garrec who wasn't called for 5 years. She has a very good right foot, useful on free kick, she's a physical midfield with a good reading of the game. French weaker position is probably at GK. Peyraud-Magnin, Picaud or Chavas are more average players than top world class. Now waiting for the missing players and RDV in Australia
After two friendlies, we have an idea on the final list. It is likely that the coach will start the pre-world cup camp with up to 30 players and weed out those who will become the reserves. There are five categories of players: Those who will go when they come back from their injury: Diani, Katoto, M'Bock and Henry Those who will definitely go if they don't get injured between now and the tournament: Peyraud-Magnin, Chavas, Picaud; Perisset, Bacha, Karchaoui, Renard, De Almeida, Cascarino E, Jean-Francois, Toletti, Geoyor, Dali, Le Garrec, Cascarino D, Le Sommer, Mateo Those who have a small chance to go make it Asseyi, Baltimore The outsiders Doucoure, Le Guilly, Lakrar, Cissoko, Sarr, Bussy, Malard The blacklisted: Hamraoui, Palis, Bilbault, Torrent
Is it a "when" for all of them or is it a "if" for some? (Meaning, of course, in time for the WWC) why there are still "blacklisted" players under a completely different coach?
She sure has to be a difficult character, but I can't forget that she was a victim in a case of assault and battery (that, by the way, as far as I know, stll hasn't had a definite ending), so it rubs me the wrong way that she's anyway considered a pariah.
Renard was very clear in his press conference when he was introduced, she is not there because some other players don't get on with her. Police are still working on the case. Big players have a lot of power, not always for good.
As i wrote on an other stream, Yes but, fortunately, not only that (and i suppose HR has eyes to see) : - Torrent is much less strong than de Almeida and Perisset at right back (she was already weak at this position during the WWC 2019 ...) - Palis ? an average player, there are many miedfield better than her - Bilbault : i must say that she has really progressed the 3 last years. but nothing compare to A.Henry ? And now, i think the young O. jean François is maybe better than her at miedfield delence.
