    Missed an open header:

Maloney has a chance to head the ball from a corner. However, this does not bring much danger.

    Lost 1-0.

    A generally mid-table BL2 side. Not a bad move

Maybe he has gotten a lot faster. But I always thought the biggest challenges Maloney had were with his speed - or lack thereof. I figured he would struggle at either outside back position.

Fewer opponents with elite pace in the 2.Bundesliga, so maybe he could help in those spots there. Does seem like his best position will be CB long term, though.

Dortmund turned out to be a really nice move for him - even ended up getting a couple Bundesliga appearances. Interested to see how things go this season at Heidenheim.

Well, since those two appearances came to a grand total of 7 minutes, I don't think the BL1 appearances had much impact, but his 61 games with the U-23 side, especially the 27 games in the 3Liga, gave him the opportunity to show his ability.

I'd be optimistic about next season and the longer term. He's only 22 after all.

Started and subbed out of a match against Hamburg in the 65th. 1-0 loss, goal scored while he was on the field.

America's top central defender playing in Germany started as the LCB in a 4-2-3-1. The stats when I turned it on said Heidenheim had been dominating for about 30 minutes, but Nurnberg have looked stronger late in the first half.

Heidenheim go up 1-0 - quick attack after a steal in the defensive end - four good passes and a shot from the penalty spot where the keeper couldn't cover either corner. Look right now, because Heidenheim are top of the table.

Maloney has been clean in possession and strong in the air. Has been switching some with the RCB, which you don't see a lot.

2-0 Heidenheim on a nice long shot by Beck / late reaction by the keeper on a save that maybe could have been made.

This may be the all-time peak for Heidenheim, a club with 1846 in its name.

Heidenheim go top of the 2BL table after the win of Nuremberg. Maloney played 90. Maloney went down late in the game after a aerial challenge and the commentator said something like that was the first time he recalled mentioning Maloney and that it goes to show how lifeless FCN’s attack was today. I like what I’ve seen from Maloney in the early part of the season. He may be one to keep an eye on. Big, strong, good in possession, and never seems too rattled.

He might be the only Yank CB playing in Germany right now. Who am I missing? Is Che actually getting minutes at CB in the Regionsliga? Transfermarkt was not listing him for Hoff II until this week. It has him listed as a CB but the stats say he played RB in the 1st game (2-0 win) and no position for the 5-2 loss.
