Man... Heidenheim really are going to stay up But it looks like for the second time in three games, Maloney was subbed off while Heidenheim were losing and Heidenheim came back to win
Lennard starts against Koln. Selke just scored off a cross where two Heidenheim defenders got a touch on the ball on its way in, but not enough of one. 1-0 Koln. No Damian Downs.
Great equalizer by Beck, turning half volley off a corner with pace and placement. Heidenheim would like to stay in the Bundesliga, thank you.
Heidenheim have been the better side, dominating the midfield, so partial credit to Maloney there. Equalized on an own goal, having spent most of the late first half in the Wolfsburg end.
Kleindienst header after a corner kick to make it 2-1 Heidenheim. They've been the better side, to be fair. But then called back for offside via VAR.
Maloney subbed off for Sessa in the 72nd. Definitely not performance-related as he had a good match, and he doesn't seem hurt. Tactical change to go for the win as this isn't like-for-like. Moving to the Paredes thread.
Maloney starts against Haffenheim, Matarazzo, and Brooks. Dinkci opens the scoring for Heidenheim, getting behind Brooks to receive a pass as one of the other defenders played him onside and Brooks both potentially didn't know and wasn't fleet enough to catch up. 1-0 and continued Heidenheim magic.
Brutal handball call against Heidenheim - defenders arm was maybe six inches away from the ball when it was kicked into his elbow. Kramaric makes the penalty, 1-1 going into the half. Quite lucky.
Second half has been a yawner, with both Brooks and Maloney looking competent. Maloney got hacked down on a late counter by Grillitsch, drawing yellow after the ref allowed play to continue first.
Maloney starts in the Dortmund match I'm least interested in for a Gio-logic age - i first went to Dortmund to watch Kirovski not play a damn long time ago.
Malen puts Dortmund up 1-0, though there's a preceding-foul VAR review and Malen offside review both coming.
No goal - inattentive right back out of the play almost kept him on while Malen was a step behind his own defenders, but less than a body width offside.
Kasey Keller twisting the dagger from the commentary booth about how uncreative Dortmund look, but they can't turn their lonely eyes to Gio on the bench to change things up.
To be fair, he's not wrong. Dortmund are clearly the more talented team and have dominated possession, but outside of the disallowed goal, they're looking dull. Halftime stats have them at 0.1xG with +70% of the possession. I maintain that Byenoe-Gittens is more "Sancho" than "Bellingham". Great in 1v1 situations with the ball at his feet, but the rest of his game needs work. But he's young and British, so who can blame BVB for giving him the time to "break out" in the hopes of a big sale.
some of the ultras (not sure which ultras) are throwing bouncy balls onto the pitch, which feels... uh... more dangerous than most protests? Anyway, play is going on regardless.
Looks like it was the FCH supporters throwing stuff into Dortmund's box. There's enough of them that you can see the debris from most camera angles. Ref still seems uninterested in stopping the match. Honestly, if it was just trash, I would be less concerned, but they're bouncy balls... someone could absolutely slip on one of those things.
Maloney free up the right wing after their press results in a turnover - and gets an open look at a cross - and probably best to say nothing more about that.
Late in the game, Maloney found himself on the ball on Dortmund's flank with targets in the box, but his cross in floats out for a GK. Commentators note Heidenheim has lacked a final ball all match long
