So as we all expected, the team will be without one of the regular starters tommorrow night as a result of an MLS review of the game tape of the match against Houston. The surprise is that they didn't punish Denton for the elbow he threw at Kamara, they are suspending Leitch for the knee to Ching's face in the scrum for the ball.

Here's the link to Ives article on the decision "Leitch Suspended for Knee to Ching's Face".

It's also listed on the MLS Discipline page.

I guess Denton didn't get suspended because that would be an advantage to the Quakes if he was suspended.

I think this suspension is bullshit. Leitch was just trying to untangle himself from Ching and get to the ball. The Houston players didn't even act like it was malicious on Leitch's part. If our FO or owners had any balls they would be on the phone to Garber and rip his ass a new one.

What a crap decision, punishing the result and not the act.

You'd think that with the post game reviews these suspensions would be slam dunk, case closed, no arguments (like Denton's elbow). I can't see that this was intentional nor do I see something overly reckless.

I agree, the result is being punished.

Wow... Leitch was just trying to untangle him self from Ching. And His knee hit Ching in the head. Ching didn't even act like it was a foul, it was one of those "wrong place wrong time" situations....

Lietch held himself back until Ching played the ball on the ground, and hten tried to shield it. This was a dangerous play on Ching.

They screwed the pooch on this one.

USSF playing favorites if you ask me.

    M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

I can see them sitting at a table saying. . .
"How dare he bloody Ching's face, we'll show him".
    and
"Cheap shot Kamara all you want, we don't like him anyway".

Yep. For some reason, officials are no longer calling this a dangerous play except in extermly obvious situations. Official screwed this one up. I think Lietch was actually waiting for the call, didn't hear one, and lunged in to get the ball which was on the other side of Brian.

No suspension warrented. Sadly, MLS is just not getting it...

Yes, this is so frustrating. In terms of the criteria

    1) putting someone in danger, opponent or oneself
    2) other players close by
    3) prevent the opponent from playing the ball safely and causing them to not play it

The players don't trust the refs to call it due to #3. Leitch wanted the dangerous play call, didn't get it, played on to the whistle as he should. There wasn't a person watching the game that thinks if Leitch simply refuses to play it for fear of putting Ching in danger that he'll get the call--not one. All that happens is he'd the lose the ball and Ching would gain advantage for the Dynamo thru a dangerous play.

Gee, someone got hurt because it actually was a dangerous play by Ching to play it while sitting on his ass and then get in the way. The refs failure to make the dangerous play call for much of anything other than coming to a complete halt because some player's boot is 6 feet in the air 6 inches away is making these things happen.

I was fuming mad about this yesterday and I still am this morning.

I am really angry about this.

    - If it were Denton, I wouldn't argue. I like that Denton played dirty and gave that jerk Kamara a cheap shot, and it's Denton, so who cares? Denton would have deserved a suspension, because the referee didn't see it and it was worthy of a red card.

    - Leitch simply tackled for a ball (AND GOT THE BALL!!!!) and in the process, managed to clearly accidentally knee a player who was on the ground, making a play for the ball. It's Ching's fault for playing the ball, and it's the referee's fault for not stopping play to protect Ching after he made a play at the ball.

This is a ridiculous suspension and it should be overturned. We can't get screwed like this just because we're at the bottom of the league.

Sadly, I'm not mad. I have come to expect these inconsistancies and lack of knowledge of the game in MLS management. There should be no suspensions unless there is clear intent to do harm. Nobody in there right mind would think Chris had any intent to harm Brian.

I'm sorry but this is unacceptable play, by any player, at any time. "Liking" the fact that Denton was nothing more than an low class thug is a sadly displaced emotion.

Thuggery is never a good thing.

I can like whatever I want.

It's not like I'm denying the fact that Denton should have been sent off. I don't want stuff like that in the game either and that's why we have red cards. But it still felt good to see somebody elbow that **** Kamara.

Yes, but, is this the USSF making this decision, or someone at MLS headquarters? Anyone know?

This may be the official in question, caught practicing his post-game-red-card-flash maneuver.

The irony tonight of Simon Elliott standing there with his hands on the hips while GBS repeatedly played the ball on the ground and fake ref did nothing. You could just see the wheels turning in Simon's mind that if failed to yield the right-of-way to the player playing the ball while sitting on this ass, he'd be slapped with a suspension.

I've looked for the specific members list of said committee, and can not find a thing. Don't know if its public knowledge at this point. Waiting for a response from MLS. . . but I won't hold my breath.

I'm going to guess it's a mix of the MLS and USSF boys club, as if there's much difference between 'em. Who knows, it could be two guys (D. Garbage and his secret friend) sitting there pulling strings on their little puppet show.

I'm growing tired of this little league day by day. Just comes across as Disney-like more and more.

I'm actually just as angry that Denton didn't get suspended as I am that Leitch did. Nobody likes Kamara (except maybe his mom) but there's absolutely no excuse for thuggishness. That was a stupid, classless thing to do and if the league didn't suspend him then Yallop should have benched him.

Yeah, because not punishing what should be punished just adds insult to the injury of punishing what shouldn't be.

A perfect example of this league's idiotic officiating is last nights Chicago/Chivas game. 11 Yellow cards, one expulsion and three penalty kicks. An excellent display of the buffoonery of MLS.
