Hey gang, I'm going to London in about a month, and I'm planning on taking a Legends Tour of the Emirates. Have any of you have taken a Legends Tour, and if so, which guide would you recommend? Thanks for any advice.
"Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie Born is the King of Highbury." Mr. Charlie George is absolutely great. Obviously a true legend but also just a really, really nice guy. My wife didn't know that much about Arsenal back when we toured Highbury. She is, however, a huge OSU fan. When Mr. George learned that, he proceeded to sit and talk to her about the Big Ten. He had become familiar with college football while playing in Minnesota back during the NASL. Just a really thoughtful thing to do to take time away from the tour to find a subject with which my wife could feel more involved/comfortable.
Unforgettable experience with Charlie George. Thoroughly enthusiastic bloke. I got a signed photo in my 'goodie bag', as well as a quality cannon keyring. Definitely worth it.
Thanks for the insight, guys. Sounds like it's pretty unanimous about Charlie. I can't wait for my first trip to London and finally catching a couple games in person!
Make sure to add at least an extra hour on to your itinerary after the tour, for your visit to the museum, located next to the stadium. A free pass will be included in your tour pack. Just when you thought that there is no greater feeling in the world, than walking down the players tunnel with Charlie.... you walk down the stairs of the museum, and the history and insight that Charlie imparted on you, will............. well, you'll see. As for me...there were tears.
Well, sadly, Charlie isn't doing any tours while I'm going to be in London, so I booked a Perry Groves tour. We all live in his world, so I'm sure it'll be fun!
Absolutely... I'm setting aside the entire morning and afternoon to soak in Highbury, the Emirates, and some of the surrounding pubs... the museum, outside of the stadium tour itself, is the thing I'm most looking forward to.
We had a similar thread a while back, and the culmination of it, was a video greeting from the museum, which I linked to the thread. It's free, and is in the second half of the museum. Might be kinda fun to do the same thing again. I'll P.M. you my e-mail address. Also....if you're perusing Armoury Square, you just might see my name.
WE got the tour with Charlie George a couple of weeks back. Everything stated earlier is spot on. When he asked where we were from, Philadelphia, he made a point to come over to my Wife and I to chat whenever a time came where people were taking pictures. He was telling us about his time playing in Minneapolis in the NASL and asked about our team now. Well worth the few extra dollars.
I'm going to try to take this tour next week when I'm in London. Can it be booked a day or two in advance? What about same day booking?
It's been a few years but I recall booking it weeks if not months ahead. The popular guides book up (Charlie being top of the list I figure). I envy you... I haven't been able to make it back over since 2008, when I did the tour w/ Charlie. Enjoy!! And I hope you've got your match tickets squared away also.
Thought i would bump this, heading into London this Saturday from the land down under, not sure i can take in a game but not missing a stadium tour with a legend (think i got Mr George as well haha but might be Groves). Anything i should make sure not to miss? Ill be taking my time and taking it all in, thats for sure. But i often get waaaayyyyy too excitable and miss things.
You should definitely head down to the Eaglet Pub before a game and meet up with Lanesra and the Grimster.
I concur with my learned colleagues above, and would also like to suggest that you use the voucher enclosed with your tour, that gives you entry to the museum. Add an extra hour, on to your plans for that day, and spend it at the museum......please!!! You wont regret it. May I also suggest a visit to Lords while you are there. http://www.lords.org/history/tours-of-lords/ You could buy a nice replica of The Ashes urn. After all...... .... there's no way that an Australian will ever take home the real one. Seriously though, a trip to Lords is well worth it, and is very easy to get to, by tube.
Oh, and, if you're in the lift with Charlie George, and it goes a bit quiete, ....whistle the theme song from.. 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
