God *$^@ing damn it! No Convey, no Stewart, Nelsen gimpy, Namoff gimpy, Esky gimpy with a hamstring, Nana Kwame doing his best Chino Alegria impression (work/visa issues), Q1 "recovering," Thiago out 6 weeks to 6 months. Quintanilla out 6 months. That's 9 players!!! That's pathetic!

Then Convey and Stewart come back. Maybe Nana Kwame gets his work permit, maybe Quaranta returns to the lineup a transformed player.

You really have to feel for Quintanilla on so many levels. Regardless of what people think of his speed or technical ability or fit within the team, he is always someone who showed up, gave it his best, demonstrated some pluck even in situations many players would concede the match. And now, with the team hurting and possibile opportunities there to impress the coach and get PT--instead he's out the rest of the season. Bad for DCU but really bad for Quintanilla.

And of course, the absolute best we can do is put him on IR to open up a roster spot (but we already have an open roster spot). We don't have the cap room to do anything. So it's pretty imperative that we cut a player who's healthy and makes decent coin. I'd say that list is probably: Petke (we'd obviously have to sign 1-2 defenders if we did that), Cerritos, Rimando and an outside chance of Kovalenko (b/c we have some depth at midfield--though not with Convey and Stewart out).

 

I was thinking the same thing. I'm tempted to call my cousin, the pro-baseball trainer and see if he thinks we have a bunch of quacks, or just really bad luck.

Maybe MLS can make up some rule to give us relief. Or we could just start taking out MLS keepers to make somebody trade for Rimando. Waiting until Convey and or Nellie are bought this summer just won't do, even if that is what it will take to give us the cap room.

 

Everyone knows the best docs are in Baltimore. They better not be using knuckleheads from DC or NOVA.

In the NFL, if you put a player on injured reserve, the salary no longer counts against your cap. I thought MLS did the same thing. Guess I was wrong. and yes, cut Rimando if we have to. Having a benched player taking up $100k is ridiculous if we're strapped.

 

The two players I think might get cut are Cerritos or Rimando. Petke is probally safe as we don't have many healthy defenders with both nelson and namoff not up to par.

What happens if we have roster space left and Convey gets transfered over seas. Can we get a player? Can we get more than one player if we have a spot left open?

I tried to look it up but MLSNet following the changes have moved the all-time transactions list. Didn't Chicago, in 2001 trade for salary cap relief, in order to sign David Vaudreuil. So there is a hostory of this type of move. I believe he was signed because of injury, Razov's I believe.

I dont think that would work for us since we dont have any draftpicks ... unless we further mortgage our future by spending 2006+ first rounders. I suppose you could look at it like we have too many youngins anyway.

as JoeW mentioned, the obvious candidates for release/trade are petke, cerritos, rimando, kovalenko. i dont think stewart is in this category. they all might fetch a little bit in terms of trade-value, but the value to us would be in terms of cap space. if we were just to outright cut somebody, i think rimando would be the obvious target, but that would derail plans to have US-Chivas draft him (wouldn't we get some compensation?). dema would get us the most return, but i dont think we can afford to lose him in terms of what he brings to the field.

Maybe as Diceson said (does he know something we don't? um... probably) we get a transfer. everyone assumes its bobby, but it could also be nelson as well. if one or both go, that would open up some space. right now, we can afford to lose bobby moreso than nellie

Quintanilla - man, noW THAT sucks. I wonder why they didn't have an idea about the mending sooner... have they been checking it?

Seriously, I can't see Petke as trade/chop. I think we'll just have to ride the storm out. Bobby & Ernie will be back soon enough, and IF Dave Stokes can play as well as last weekend I don't think it will be that bad
