After the left wing thread the other day, I thought I'd ask for some tips on playing left back, or full back in general.

I've been playing there for a few years now, but I'm still no expert. So some in-depth tips would really help me!

    Thanks

The main thing is defending. It's my main weakness whenever I play there.. I know things such as showing them down the line and what have you...

But just positioning tips and so on would be great.

Don't ******** up the offside-line by being too deep atleast.

In general you should lead the opposing winger outwards, UNLESS your team has a defensive system that says otherwise.

If a midfielder comes running at you with the ball and you have your winger on the outside of you then you must never press the midfielder, because then you and the team will get exposed. You gotta lead the midfielder towards the winger and make him play the winger in feet and then get in tight against the winger if you can.

In general, if you pass the post that's nearest to you then you're out of position almost no matter what.

If you can get in tight on a winger and press him (f.ex. when he's facing his own goal) without having a risk of being tricked off, then plaguing him (to death) (without being too agressive) is something very few players like and may make his whole game a sad time for him.

Anyways, in defence you have got to be a bit tough as well as concentrated and act with as little hesitation as possible. Also, get the talk going on the pitch so that you can say to the midfielders that they're not covering up like they should , and the CBs can tell you if you're out of postion.

Hope this has helped a bit. I don't know much to say unless you really ask for a scenario. In a case which I'd be delighted to help, by the way.
