He says he doesn't want to play for the North, but he wont play for us in the third division so he could end up playing for neither unless he moves.
on the official Swansea website it says that Lee Trundle is English, is he defantly eligible to play for us? If he is i reckon he should start!!
Lee He was on socceram a few months ago... and he was asked... He can play for Ireland and said thats what he wants!. Hes worth a try thats for sure!
we can't cap a third division player, if he wants his chance to play for us he'll have to move up a few divisions, for the moment there's loads ahead of him in the pecking order when he's down in division three.
I'm sick of people goin on about Lee Trundle playing for Ireland because it's never gonna happen at least until he's playin in the first division. Sure he's a good player but he's in a poor division below his standards. Do you really think he'd take the ball down on his neck in the middle of the park roll it round onto his chest and pass it against France? He wouldn't even get the ball never mind the time and space to do it! So give up thinkin of pip-dream players and start calling for Premiership players to get in with a shout like Douglas at Blackburn and Delap at Southampton instead of no-hopers like Graham Kavanagh and Lee "Showboat" Trundle. PS: If Soccer AM didn't do "showboat" would we have heard about him?
True, in general about Trundle, but it does expose a bit of hypocrisy, however. There have been occasions in the past where players have waited for an England call-up and when it didn't come, then suddenly find their Irish roots. Then, usually Irish fans have hailed them, supported them and in general are happy to have them in the side. I'm thinking specifically of Morrison here, and from a few years ago Tony Galvin. If either of those players had proved to be crap or were never in serious contention, they would have been dismissed as opportunistic Irishmen. Yet because they are/were relative successes, then everything is all right. In other words, if they are good, then happy to have them, if not, well, get lost. Trundle seems to be in the same boat - he's not good enough now to be considered, and is seen as opportunistic looking for the back door into international football - but if he's suddenly signed by say, Fulham, then he HAS to be capped immediately. As I say it's a bit hypocritical, but there's no denying that he's probably not up to international football standards, playing for Swansea.
I'm not sure it's like that really. I can only speak for me, but I've no problem with him declaring and all of that, however he can't be capped while playing in the third division. If there was some Dublin born player on showboat every week in the third division the same would apply, until he proves himself at a level even close to international football he can't be considered.
Glen Crowe gets in the Ireland squad so why cant Trundle get in even if he is in a Div 3 side (and the league's top scorer?) Closey
He's not the leagues top scorer and Glen Crowe was a token gesture. Anyway, I'd say the Eircom League is of a higher standard then division three, but that's neither here nor there.
The Eircom League is in no way of higher standard than Division three. Take players like Richie Foran for example who left for Division Three and are failing to make an impact. Crowe couldn't even make it at 1st Division Wolves and was shipped home to Ireland where he's banging in the goals, why? cos he's playin no-hopers and rejects! Glen Crowe getting a call-up to the Irish team in my opinion made a mockery of the national team. What kind of message does that send out to proper professionals at proper clubs like Graham Barret, Alan Lee, Jonathon Douglas and others? Do you really think that Waterford United or Drogheda United could give Huddersfield a good game? I don't think so!
Brilliantly wrong. Richie Foran, in fact, in his first season scored more goals in division three then he did in the Eircom League, despite the fact that he was at one of the worst division three sides and one of the best EL sides. His well documented off field problems and injuries have halted him ever since. Richie Foran was, at one time, being tracked by premier league and scottish premier league sides, such was the success of his first season. what have they done to deserve call ups? You must be joking about Barrett, he's been awful since leaving Arsenal, Lees done nothing this year and Douglas has only just broken into the Blackburn side, though he may get a chance later, he doesn't even play up front. Well Shels played Hartlepool, all be it in a friendly, and won 3-0, that from that what you will. Bohs beat Aberdeen in the UEFA cup and were very unlucky to lose to a Bundesliga side aswell, even managed to win the away leg, they're both better sides then anything the third division has to offer and I think it's fair to say they got more then a 'good game'
