MLS has 3 games today and someone will likely skewer them for it. Argentina's top flight has 3 games including teams like San Lorenzo and Estudiantes. Brasil's to flight has 5 games including teams like Gremio and Sao Paulo Also Spain's second division and the English 3rd and 4th divisions (league 1 and 2) are playing. Also, FIFA has a youth world championship for U20 playing. While I don't think its the best scenario to play games on WCQ dates, its not fair to criticize MLS as Mickey Mouse for it and not also turn your eyes towards Argentina and Brasil. MLS while making some odd decisions is rarely alone or without precendent in their decisions.
MLS made an effort to minimize the amount of games played on WCQ's. As you said, there's only 3 games today. Far from a full slate.
Ireland played last night, Scotland's lower divisions played today, and Australia played on Friday night.
The more pertinent question would be which leagues are playing without provision for postponing games where teams are losing players to international duty. For example the Leeds-Bristol Rovers match was postponed due to several Leeds players being called up, whereas Estudiantes played last night despite having three players in the Argentina squad.
Congratulations, you've found the leagues that play March/April to November/December! Mexicos league also had games yesterday and today, including Chivas.
Yeah, but 90% of big soccer posters don't know that such a thing exists...and actually multiple high ranking FIFA officials.
And none of those leagues had their first division playing today. MLS, LMF, Brazil and Argentina all had their big teams playing today. All have similar schedules. The calendar is called "the european calendar" for a reason. Only european teams follow it! And that of course ignores the scandanvian countries that also play in the summer
pretty much all 2nd tier (and below) divisions carry on playing. They don't tend to have too many international players playing for them, so there's no need to stop.
Which is why the whole "international calendar" thing getting inserted into the current USL1/USL-TOA brouhaha is a bit of a lark.
Were they playing at the same time? That's all I care about. Avoid the two hour block where the US is playing.
England's lower division games finished 25 mins before the England game began. When England has played in the standard 3pm Saturday slot, many lower division games have had their kickoffs moved forward to prevent a clash.
World Peace, whirled peas, and...what do you mean? I was just analyzing and discussing that something MLS is absolutely trashed for also happens in Brasil and Argentina. I'm not sure what I would be 'wanting'.
But in Argentina this is an exception not the rule because of the season beginning delay... People are complaining about that mid-week matches should've kept off the week before the national team plays. If you go back to previous seasons you'll notice that, also no match was played the same day the national team plays. And Brazil doesn't stop for World Cups even, if i recall correctly, but that could be because the the schedule for the Serie A sides is quite congested. No idea what's their view on that though.
