Lots of Pumas fans there. Go ahead and take my fan card away. I cheered when Clevland (Austin's backup goalie) made the penalty save in the 90+ minute.
I'm. just cheering for a good game. I'm tired of watching poor play... that being said, I think this is the first time I have seen something in Austin that tells me they want to win.... 'Tony Pee-court must not have been in the building..
There's something ironic about all that...terrible field at a stadium not called RFK and they couldn't use FedEx...
Per Goff, spring football tore it up. Field has not recovered from DC Defenders. Usually a new surface is installed after UFL season. It wasn’t this year because of expected use in late May. New field goes in next week. “D.C. United has put greater parameters in place to protect this from happening in the future.”— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 26, 2024
I haven't watched any Leagues Cup so far, and I don't plan to anytime soon. I'm kind of using it as an opportunity to recharge my soccer fandom batteries. Give it a little break and then jump back in. I'll watch when we enter, but until then, I'm just not interested. And it's not because I agree with the big, philosophical objections that a lot of people claim to have with it. I'd probably feel differently towards it if it wasn't running directly up against the Olympics. I've got a choice between soccer... which I'm already doing pretty much year round ANYWAY, or checking out the kaleidoscope of different sports that I hardly ever get to watch at all except for two weeks every four years... I'll check back in later.
I have similar thoughts, except I was kind of excited to watch some Leagues Cup games this year because I did enjoy what I saw last year. And then I looked at the schedule. Orlando v Montreal? DC v Atlanta? New England v Mazatlan? NYC v Queretaro? Good grief. No thanks. I’m all set on that. Olympics it is for me.
Along those lines... I won't deny that I'm checking the schedule every other day or so. If some super-compelling matchup is happening, I might value watching it more than watching... whatever Olympic sport is getting showcased at that exact moment.
Can someone verify this. The websites say the Crew’s knockout game is on August 9 with a 10:30 start time? Are they expecting rain?
They've got America's match the next night starting at 1:00 AM. So, I'm assuming it's a glitch of some kind, and no one's noticed because they're both weeks away.
Could the times be in GMT? (Even though this is strictly a North American tournament). Right now, GMT is 4 hours diff from EDT (5 hours from EST). So that would make the Crew match at 6:30 pm EDT, and America's match at 9 pm EDT. IF my theory is correct.
OR! It's a typo and the game starts at 7:30pm (confirmed via press release). There is no way in hell they're starting a game in Columbus Ohio at 10:30pm.
Leagues Cup opening weekend attendance is up 24% from last year’s opening weekend. Boycott bros are in shambles.
I will never understand boycotting watching your team play. I would watch the Crew play regardless of the tournament/competition.
I'm right there with you. "iT's A cAsH gRaB!!!". Yea, welcome to professional sports. The entire industry exists to make money. I get being upset about the situation with the Open Cup, but hardly anyone cared about the Open Cup before this whole debacle. Just look at last year's Open Cup attendances compared to Leagues Cup. I personally love Leagues Cup. Tons of games every night of the week. You get to see LMX-MLS matchups which are always fun. It also breaks up the monotony of the "dog days of summer" when league play can get a little stale. I love it.
Yup. The type of person who sees "midseason World Cup style tournament" and makes noises about "BUHHHH Don Garber cash grab Open Cup tradition" is not the type of person I wish to hang out with at parties or drink a beer with. Just enjoy the thing thats enjoyable.
