I'm retired! I have lots of time.
Sorry about your angry infant. Been there done that. Glad to not have grand kids.

    Let's beat Necaxa!!
And what's the correct pronunciation? Necasha? Necagsha?
I'm not sure, and not getting great help online.

    GO Quakes!!

Wondering the same. I think my son (who speaks enough Spanish to navigate us through Spain/South America) said Necasha, accent on the cash.

I guess I would read it like this: Naa - Kah - Sha

But I'm an ignorant, American English speaking person.

Yeah, just like it's spelled, with the normal Spanish vowels.

So the x is pronounced as in English? (Which would technically be Nay-Kaks-uh?)
    Which syllable is accented?

The 2nd I would guess by default since no accent mark?

    X in Spanish sounds like K, S, or rarely J and H.

The letter "X" in Spanish, also known as la equis, can be pronounced in a few different ways:
    • K followed by S
This is the most common pronunciation, and is used when the "X" appears between vowels, is followed by a consonant, or is at the end of a word. For example, in the words examen, taxi, texto, and relax.
    • Pronounced like an S
This is often heard in Spain, when the "X" is followed by a consonant. For example, in the words excursión and experto.

    Yes, that should be right.
The X is archaic. The Spanish translated a lot of native words with Spanish spelling, but they threw in X’s when they weren’t sure. Also, their spelling wasn’t standardized back in the day, so Mexico and Texas have X’s standing in for J’s.

In any case, let’s whoop their asses! I hope Daniel is in goal tonight.

    Go Quakesfans!!

One of my sons is named Rex, and I have a picture of him in front of the Rex Cafe in Girona/Gerona (just up the road from Barcelona) -- realizing the cafe name probably sounded nothing like our Rex (wrecks) in Catalan. Still, pretty cool!

"Necaxa" almost certainly comes from Nahutl--meaning it isn't really a Spanish word. The "x" sound in Nahuatl doesn't really exist in Spanish but is closest to "sh" in English. "X" in Nahuatl also has another sound before the "sh" that sounds kind of like a soft "g" to me.

Interesting. For those of you unfamiliar with Nahutl (like me), this is what google fed me:

"Nahuatl, also known as Aztec or Mexicano, is a language or group of languages that is part of the Uto-Aztecan language family. It has been spoken in Central Mexico since at least the 7th century AD and was the language of the Aztecs, who ruled the region from the 14th to 16th centuries. Nahuatl was the lingua franca of much of Mesoamerica until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Today, around 1.7 million Nahua people speak Nahuatl, primarily in Central Mexico, but also in El Salvador and parts of the United States."

Never hurts to get a little eduction on international culture through soccer.

Lots of Mexican Spanish words come from Nahuatl--aguacate, chocolate, and tomato to name just a few. And a zillion place names in Mexico come from Nahuatl and other indigenous languages. "Mexico" comes from "Mexica," which is how the Spanish spelled the name that the Aztecs called themselves. The Spanish invented the word "Aztec."

Sounds right--though I think Xcaret is actually a made-up modern word (made to sound authentic).

Bummer. Daniel not able to go.
Also, the Apple+ app is slow as hell on my TV.

Niko and Jack on the bench. That’s good, but we’ve got two ‘keepers on the bench too.

    Go Quakesfans!!

Attendance doesn’t seem that bad. Could be worse. I don’t see many Necaxa fans, so mostly Quakes fans.

Ultras banner "until the end." That's not ominous at all!
