I know exactly where they were, I know more about Liga MX teams then MLS which speaks to the highest volumes, because I know MLS more then my own life. They haven't been in any prior to leagues cup since 2007 in the Copa Libertadores. This guys haven't been relevant since the 90s with only 1 title in 2018 in the SuperCopa MX. The only thing that is of major important in Mexico is Copa MX and Primera Division. In Mexico it doesn't matter where you finish unless your the champion, it is considered failure. The stuff found acceptable in MLS is not acceptable in Mexico, and Necaxa is a consistent loser. They're fans are peaceful though among most MLS teams. They accept and know they're losers. Necaxa, Juarez, San Luis, Mazatlán, Puebla, Atlas, Xolos, Santos, Pumas, Queretaro are all jobbers.
Yeah, I get it. I'm less concerned about their history in winning championships (or not) than I am in how good are they *right now*. Looks like about mid-table based on the last half-season. Looks like they are not as good as Chivas, but not among the very worst Liga MX teams like Puebla.
I am with you, and no Necaxa is not good. They will be a bottom 3 team by the end of the campaign. They're beating up very bad MX teams and crappy 2nd and 3rd MLS teams. They will struggle against our first team and if they manage to win, LAFC will blow them so far outta the water 5-6 to 0. They're only saving grace is Gudino, but he is not starting this tournament, they're using the backup
I was expecting us to lose all of our games for the rest of the season with Luchi, so yes, I think we’re playing better under Ian. Your mileage may vary. Go Quakesfans!!
Necaxa should be an easy win at home tomorrow from what I'm reading. Then, we're in the round of 16! So that would be positive. And there are still 9 league games left to play, if Ian can avoid winning the wooden spoon, then I'd say that's at least a little progress...so we'll see. But losing 5 of your first 6 league games is terrible by any objective measure.
Ian has them playing organized! It’s the better discipline, better understanding of their assignments, and better coordination between the players that has me optimistic. We looked better against the GoatF-ers than we have all season. There were only a couple of games under Luchi where I thought some or most of the guys quit. Under Ian we’ve seen not just effort, but occasionally real passion to win. Not for a full 90 yet, but better than under Luchi. I have more belief in Ian’s ability to get the guys all on the same page at the same time than I thought Luchi could do that. Again, just what I think. You don’t have to agree. Go Quakesfans!!
Quakes do have a depressingly consistent habit of roaring out of the starting gate only to wither and die a Shakespearian death in Act IV...
Mid-table-ish Liga MX team vs. the worst MLS team - not an "easy win" by any stretch in my book. I know this technique of over-handicapping Quakes opponents so that if Quakes win, well, they better have(!), and if they don't it's a colossal failure. Someone (not you) used to do that pretty much every week. Heads I win, tails you lose! Because we're playing at home, and because we're playing a little better than worst team in MLS history, I think it's kind of a toss-up on balance. We could win, we could lose. I think it'll go to PKs.
Im a lifeless house bum with an angry infant, so i have an excuse to spend excessive amounts of time here... how do some of you have so much time... especially those who have big white collar careers.
I don't have time. I don't post on weekends or during the evenings. I only post during my lunch, periodic breaks, and at the end of work day. It helps that I read and type fast and can multi-task. When I started on BS, I mostly lurked the first year or so because I was too busy with three kids under the age of 8 at the time and working at a start-up. Between the Quakes in 20021 and US in the 2002 WC in Japan-Korea, I was hooked on BS. Fun times back then!
