The PK and then Yarborough's howler doomed the Quakes.... ....that along with the owner being Fisher.
The final score is: 4 - 1 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
Too bad the Quakes are now so hot they were favorites over LAFC This was the day of the underdogs, three underdogs on the East advanced. Down goes Cruz Azul, FC Cincinnati, Inter Miami CF and Tigres UNAL. #MLS #LeaguesCup #LigaMX— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) August 14, 2024
We had a real good chance and looked real good until Munie and Yarbrough decided today was the day to job us out.
It's not our biggest need IMO. Munie had a bad game tonight but he's had a string of pretty good games, and this is his first year getting a reasonable number of starts so he'll get better. And then we have Wilson coming back next year. I'd rather that we focus on the midfield and striker. Those are bigger needs I think.
We had 0 corners in this game. Part of the problem is that we had no width in our attack. The one time we attacked wide we scored. 'Grino is not going to give us width. We could have used a bit more from Costa. Skahan did some stuff when he came in. I mean at least he was trying and causing a little bit of danger even if nothing came off. Also, searching for positives - our transition midfield to final 3rd was again pretty good, as we saw against Necaxa. And Hernán had another good game. I don't know if he lost the ball once even though he dribbled thru traffic a few times. The problem is trying to find ideas to get chances against a set defense. We've been bad at that for a long time. It's what separates the good teams like Miami, Columbus, LAFC, and teams like us.
We're a few guys away from being competent. Striker is the biggest need we have. If we could transition into the attack and get some looks on goal it will help, everything dies with Jebo, Pellegrino and especially JUDD
Well, all we have are rumors right now, right? A midfielder and a CB. We can use better players everywhere but I think striker is #1 and midfield is #2. CB sure, and GK sure, but not so much when Wilson and Daniel are back. And this year is over so it's about next year.
1) Our goalkeeping has been by far our biggest problem - 61 GA with 45 expected. That is completely unheard of. No other team's GKing has been remotely that bad - not even in the same galaxy, and it's likely an MLS record for GK ineptness. Daniel will be returning soon - he was one of the best keepers in MLS last year. 2) Bruno Wilson has been out most of the this year. Again, this year is a lost cause. We should be working on next year. I feel a lot better about a CB pairing of Wilson and Rodrigues in front of Daniel than I do about another year with Jebo as our regular starting #9. 3) Defense is a team thing, not just about CB's. As one example, Gruezo has been all but useless for much of the year though a little better of late.
