🚨 Steve Cherundolo says Olivier Giroud will be available for #LAFC in their Round of 16 match against the Earthquakes tomorrow. #LeaguesCup2024— Andy Deossa 🇨🇴 (@Andy_Deossa) August 12, 2024
F! el-lay!! I'd love for us to win, but I fear that we won't. On the upside, we've made it farther through Leagues Cup than I thought we would. So from where I sit (in exile in the PNW), this is at least partly redeeming for this season. Now I really want to see us bring the same focus, organization, and determination to win to regular MLS games. We aren't making the playoffs, but if we can finish on a halfway decent run it will make the season feel ... less horrible. Go Quakesfans!!
It would be a sort of miracle if the Quakes win but it will also be kind of cool. The main thing is seeing Garber and the powers that be across the league squirming at the thought of a potential Leagues Cup trophy. We all know they would hate seeing San Jose in the finals.
This has been true since even before Day One, when at a Galaxy STH rally just prior to the start of league play in 1996, Alan Rothenberg derisively mocked some “rinky-dink town up north” (which then made his plans to purchase that “rinky-dink town’s” MLS team two years later that much more awkward). Word has it that the San Jose Earthquakes’ success during The Golden Age frustrated the league office no end throughout that time (and to a few there, it even pissed them off). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
All in on us 🏆. Match Day in SoCal ☀️!#LeaguesCup2024 | #Quakes74— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) August 13, 2024 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
When he played for us, Elliott was a back pass machine. Almost never did anything positive to progress the ball. That same season, he played for New Zealand in the World Cup and played the ball forward, looked sharp creating from deep. Then he came back to us and back passed constantly. I blame our coach for that. Go Quakes!!!
If only own goals counted for us. We could have been top of the league. The Amazing Backwards Soccer Team!!
By the way, the wasn’t directed at @falvo, but rather at Alan Rothenberg. Sorry about the confusion. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Simon was one of the best players in that world cup. He got a lot of praise that cup. Frank ruined him. Same for pass back sam.
You know, I'm not really worried about Giroud tonight. We'll just unleash The Beas(t) on him! (Psst, Tanner, try to look more mean and less worried!) .

Elliott was also good at Stanford before turning pro. Didn't the EQ draft another kiwi from the same Stanford class? A defender?
Todd Duncan is an American who played for San Jose State. His sister Stacey played at UCLA. She had been a forward on her club soccer team the Mercury. (My daughter was the sweeper, Danielle Slaton was on the wing, and Aly Wagner the #10).
