It's pointless. It's clogging up an already full schedule to be a cash grab. I have less than zero interest in Mexican clubs and never will. Just like I have zero interest in Dutch or Latvian clubs. There is no reason for this "cup/tournament" to exist other than to line someone's pockets.
Yeah, I just feel like this tournament is some kind of proving ground for a merger down the road. There are probably 40 million+ Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in this country, most of them with a higher income than most Mexicans living in Mexico. There is money to be made here for LMX clubs, and ownerships will always flow toward it.
How is it clogging a schedule if it is the only thing on the schedule at the time? Also, it's 2 games (max of 6, but that's stretching it). Not like they're adding 6 games for everyone.
Because it's taking up useful rest time for folks? It's right in the middle of the season - I'd just LOVE to lose a player for the rest of the season because we're competing in some stupid competition with dirty hack Mexican teams.
MLS has a full 4 month offseason (not counting playoffs. Most European teams get 1 month offseason, maybe 1.5 months. Our schedule isn’t clogged.
Dudes can blow out their knees in practice. Or get hit by a bus. Or drive their car off the highway at illegal speeds. Or get struck by lightning in a parking lot. It is what it is.
It's during July-August. The middle of the season. https://www.concacaf.com/en/champio...023 Leagues Cup will,15 groups of three teams.
During which, the league will PAUSE. Meaning this not overlap with league play. It will also probably mean the league starts earlier and ends later. Which would unclog the schedule, if anything. We get to watch at least two more Crew games and have the Crew around for more of year. What's not fun about that? I said this on Reddit and I'll repeat it here: I'm not entirely sure some of you people actually enjoy soccer or the Crew (or insert favorite team here) lol
Exactly what I want - the League my team plays in to go on hiatus so some stupid tournament between nations can be played to line some group's pockets instead of consequential games in the League. Then Cucho or Zelarayan blow an ACL with a behind the back tackle from some chump Liga MX hack. NOT.
He runs around playing dirty and making injurious tackles on opponents? I wasn't aware that was part of his repertoire.
I'm with him. I don't give a damn about Mexican soccer. If I did, I'd watch Liga MX. I don't, so I don't. I'd rather watch MLS games. I'll probably watch the games the Crew are in, because they're my team, but I'm not watching Minnesota/Mazatlan. And he's also right about the schedule congestion argument. The European leagues may have a shorter off-season, but our season has many moments where we're playing multiple matches a week because of the compressed calendar, which is necessary in North America because of the climate. Factor in FIFA dates, the Champions League, and the Open Cup, and it's a little disingenuous to act like fixture congestion isn't a thing.
So you're telling me that my eyes are lying from all those USA vs El Tri games where one nation's players are consistently dirty and hacking at their opponents? Man, strange to have seen that all these years but it's just in my head after-all.
I'm sure all of those that hate the idea also hate UEFA Champions League as well. It's good for both leagues and as mentioned above, more Crew to watch. How dare they.
Yeah, because no players or teams in MLS are known for hacking and fouling. It’s the beautiful game here, freakin’ jogo bonito like prime Brazil, every team.
It is. I do. That's why I don't want to shut it down for a month to watch friendlies against another league.
