The MPS is one of the reasons Indoor Soccer will never get recognition from FIFA and U.S Soccer. They need to think long term and more recognition for the sport. It just goes to show that unfortunately some of the owners are extremely short sighted when it comes to the league and indoor game.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I keep reading about these rivalries being reborn (like Baltimore and Harrisburg)? But what about other rivalries, like Milwaukee and Cincinnati? Missouri and Las Vegas? Baltimore and Tulsa? Isn't this what its all about?
Mary Bubala from the CBS affiliate in Baltimore said that they are running the MASL piece on the news this evening and will likely have the video up sometime later this evening after it has been run over their air.
20 games was the length of the MISl regular season last year, the PASL played 16. so for the former MISL teams its the same length, for the PASL teams its a longer season. 12 teams make the playoffs, 3 from each division. somewhat similar to the NHl setup. hopefully the regular season will get longer over time.
Mor info from one of the Harrisburg area papers: http://cumberlink.com/sports/local/...cle_181ab0a4-df81-11e3-8ce4-001a4bcf887a.html
I don't think that's the hangup. FIFA was never interested in it and probably won't be. And various indoor leagues have affiliated with USSF over the years, but PASL was never one of them. Maybe Syd can explain in more detail why PASL (to my knowledge) never sought it out, but there is a separate international body called FIFRA (which isn't the LEAST bit confusing!) for the sport. Internationally -- it's futsal. Ship sailed long ago.
“A lot of owners checked their egos at the door and worked hard to make this happen,” said Heat owner and CEO John Wilsbach
Here is a statement by the Cleveland Freeze https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=778648242155178&id=616600551693282
From the Freeze statement: So, wait, what? The league is 24 teams unless other teams decide to join? Congratulations to the Freeze for a five paragraph statement that makes things even less clear than they were to begin with.
My educated guess is that the Cleveland owners may not have the $$$ lined up to meet the new league's financial requirements (not sure about their arena). They hope to find some new investors in time to join, but have a short deadline to meet. It would be great to have a Cleveland team in the MASL so I hope they can find a way.
WTF? How the hell are some of those teams going to even afford to paint the new 3 "ahem" point arc and why the hell does Tanner have any pull to begin with? Few extra road trips to the midwest will do him in I will admit the Logos/Teams on that Map do look very Professional!
Yes I'm not a big fan of the MPS. I hope it will be one point goals in the MASL next season. It's looks like four divisions. I hope they will bring a Eastern and Western conferences into the mix.
http://baltimoreblast.com/news/headlines/index.html?article_id=463 Blast official statement. Also, clears up Cleveland situation with following comment: "The league currently has 24 teams with the possibility of adding more teams prior to the June 1, 2014 deadline established by the league to play in the 2014/2015 season." So, ya, basically what happened was they announced a league name and opening game, along with a list of teams we basically already had and said all the good stuff will be announced at a future presser. Fun times.
Here is the news report from CBS Baltimore (Its about midway down the page) ..... http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2014/05/19/baltimore-blast-joins-new-indoor-soccer-league/
I am a big fan of MPS. I hope they implement it. I also look forward to the Comets opening in Dallas. Brian Harris will win it with a three.
