Australia: Was the National Soccer League (NSL), but that has now been abolished and all the clubs kicked out and required to submit bids for inclusion next season in what will be the Australian Premier League (APL)

Tier 1: None, altho' there is talk of MLS maybe expanding to one or more Canadian cities after 2005.

Tier 2: "A-League" -Presently 5 Canadian cities (Montreal, Toronto, Calgary
    , Edmonton, Vancouver)
    in 16 team USL league,
the 5 teams having heir own additional competition called the
"Voyageurs" Cup. The Canadian portion is referred to
, tongue-in-cheek, as the "Eh-league", given the Canadian
penchant for that particular interjection, eh.

    Tier 3 (supposedly):
    1. "Canadian Professional Soccer League"- an Ontario Regional
semi-pro league. All four words in the name are debatable.
Has it's own "Canada Open" Cup competition with a few
central Canadian amateur teams. Run like a
    banana republic.
    2. "Pacific Coast Soccer League"- a small British Columbia
semi-pro league, with a few American teams in
    next-door Washington State.

Amateur Leagues- with Provincial champions, meeting in a
    Canadian Championship every year.

Development Leagues- of various types, such as the USL "Professional Development League" with two teams in Canada.
The last truly Canadian soccer league was the "Canadian Soccer League" in the late 80's and early 90's, which folded because of travel costs and other problems.

There, don't that just jar your pickles?

    More Suitable League Names

Barclaycard still sponsoring the premiership next year? Isn't the Nationwide league (Divisions 1, 2, 3) becoming the Coca-Cola League next year?
Scotland's League is officially called "The Bank of Scotland Premier League".
Any other leagues in the world named after sponsers?

I was thinking that maybe the leagues need more appropriate names.

    England "The Longball-and-Chase League"
    Germany "The Ugly Kit League"
Italy "The Dive and Whine League"
    France "The Englsh Feeder League"
Cameroon, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Martinique and a few dozen others:

    The Che Guevera League

Well, according to fifa.com, there is some sort of domestic national championship set-up.

    http://www.fifa.com/en/display/article,71134.html

Whether it is much of a league, I'm afraid to guess. They do produce fairly good soccer players somehow.

They have been playing soccer there for a long time. The first international match I attended were the two June, 1967 Olympic Qualifying matches in Edmonton, Canada v. Cuba (won by Cuba). Cuba was also the first "CONCACAF" country to qualify for the World Cup Tournament besides Mexico and the US (1938, France).

Oh I know that they play soccer a lot, I have family over there. And I knew about the national squad, but I had no idea that they had a domestic league.

    Good to know.

If all else fails I can become a nationalized Cuban and play on the national team. Just kidding lol.

Spain's La Liga... The League... very clever...

Actually it's the LFP (Liga de Futbol Profesional) which encompasses the 1st and 2nd A Divisions.

The 2B and below are the.. well...

Puerto Rico has a league called Liga Mayor de Futbol Profesional... ripping off Spain and the MLS AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Cuba should have a league... let me guess...

    Fideliga!!!

If you are calling Spain's league, LFP, then isn't France's Le Championat?
