I would take Pires for sure on the left. On the right his ability to be influential is limited to diagonals.

I put Giggs on the left and Pires on the right because without Beckham in the EPL there isn't a right-sided midfielder who is better than an out of position Pires, even though Pires has played on the right before. Maybe I would consider his teammate, Ljungberg...
