    Bendtner-Vela
    ? - Denilson - Diaby - Walcott
    Traore- Senderos- Djourou - Hoyte
    Fabianski

Personally, I think those games might be some of the most fun to watch considering the amount of young talent there.

I cannot wait to see Vela. Thoughts?

I would think it's reasonable to assume that Merida is your missing left-mid.

Fun thread, and nice to look forward to something instead of just talking about Henry.

From what I read a few weeks ago, there's no chance that we can get Vela before January because of work permit issues. Has anyone heard otherwise?

I'd expect to see something like this, based on our curent roster:

    -- Bendtner - Diaby --
    -- Denilson - Merida - Song - Walcott --
    -- Traore - Senderos - Djourou - Hoyte
    - Fabianski -

Also: Connolly, Randall, Gilbert ... maybe Vela later on?

Don't read this as much as positions, but more as who I expect to see on the field the most. Obviously we're short on strikers, so our transfers will have an influence. I think Walcott might play as the second forward.

That said, I expect to see some new players in the CC this year, namely Bendtner, Merida and Song. I'd also expect to see a few appearances from the likes of Connolly and maybe even Randall.

Who else might make it in? What about Nordveit? Any chance he gets in there?

I agree with ^^. Nice thread topic.

    Do we still have Randall?

And I don't think Senderos will still play in league cup. Just a hunch.

My bad, I thought Vela was available starting in the Fall.

And Merida should be a joy to watch as well, considering he seems to be a left-footed, younger, Cesc.

If no Senderos in the back line, then who replaces him? I'm thinking the starting back four will be Clichy-Toure-Gallas-Eboue. Senderos doesn't seem to fit in there.

I wouldn't expect Nordveit to play, it seems like AW is more reluctant to blood the real young defenders. I would expect O'Cearuill to be ahead of him as well, since he's been getting IRL call-ups.

But, you never know who's going to go out on loan, I guess...

Nordveit will probably get a year of youth tema, before he makes it to the Carling. He's only 16, right?

Ah, O'Cearuill, you're right, I forgot about him. He'd be next in line probably.

And as far as I know, Shincan, we still have Randall.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Randall, I've read he's thought of very highly. He may be primed for a loan spell.

Kind of makes you wish we'd kept Stokes or Lupoli, doesn't it?

Good news- (from Wikipedia) "However, Arsene Wenger, Arsenal's manager, has applied for a work permit to bring Vela back to the Emirates Stadium in July 2007, even though he was originally due back in January 2008."

Ah nice. That would certainly be a boon to our young attacking options. Let's hope it happens.

Henry Lansbury may get a few sub appearances up front, Barazite, O'Cearuil (sp?), Randall and Merida may also get cameo roles.

Fantastic thread. It's about time we got off the topic of Henry. I'm excited to see Merida. Also, I merely skimmed the previous posts, but we would still play Theo wouldn't we? Or would we not...just wondering

I think we should play our full strength squad b/c what with Henry gone, it may be our only chance for silverware!!!!

Couldn't let there be a thread without any negativity on the front page ;)

Maybe Theo plays up front, in an effort to prep him for a striker role. Very interesting....

Very exciting possibilities mentioned here. Will definitely be worth watching and will be entertaining to see them grow against good competition at the very least. Good thread.

I don't know about Hoyte/Diaby/Senderos in the league fixtures. They're already first teamers. Wenger might just fill them in with some other youths.

They're not first choices though and if we are luckier this year and don't suffer injuries they'll get a game in the League Cup to keep them properly match fit.

    Possible Team:

    Fabianski
    Hoyte-Senderos-Djourou-Traore
    Lansbury-Denilson-Diaby-Merida
    Walcott-Bendtner

The bench will be packed with youth team players, so it should be good to watch if they have any sort of decent run in the competition.

I guess he'll move on, he'll be a decent goalkeeper somewhere, but I don't think Wenger sees him as a long-term number one at Arsenal. I wouldn't be surprised to see an veteran keeper brought in as cover for Lehmann and Fabianski, much like Mart Poom was for the last couple of seasons.

Honestly, I really dont think Wenger is going to make Diaby play the Carling cup matches, what with him being a first teamer. Even Hoyte and Adebayor might not feature here. Arsene mentioned last season that he would not put any first teamers in the Carling Cup.

    So the likely team -

    --------------------------------Fabianski----------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---Gilbert-------------Djourou--------------Connolly-----------Traore------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---Lansbury----------Denilson--------------Merida------------Randall------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    --------------------Walcott----------------Bendtner----------------------

Unless Almunia is content as third choice he will probably leave the club.
