Anyone watching GolTv's Super estadio? Yesterday we had American Soccer cover the match from the US' pow...Right now, i see Lavolpe being interviewed on GolTV (juggling back and forth between this and Metro SOccer Report-sorry) .. From what i've seen says that "they'll play intelligent soccer.... and perform the way Mexico did at the Confederations Cup, smart technically and tactically (as in vs. Brazil)" also mentioned, sort of like Borguetti did before, that "we (US) tends to play a "closed" sort of game...where US pressures in the middle and counter.... taking advantage of our speed.......that if the US played a more open game, more weakness could be exposed by the team... but that we probably would not do that, as they'd score a few"....anyway....i'll get back to it....but people with GolTV can listen to this with the audio translated to English
what a jackass. assume for a moment that his premise is correct, that if we played what they consider to be "more wide open" that more of our weeknesses would be exposed. Well, if that is the case, its a good thing we don't play that way you moron. Why in the hell would you use a tactical strategy that doesn't put you in the best position to win? Correct me if im worng, but is the object not to win? Or is it to play "the beautiful game?"

"training and playing give you the experrience to compare level of play and that he feels more Mexicans could play in LA liga" Next up the point is brought up that it was the Confederations Cup that sealed the deal for him and arose an even stronger interest from BOlton...They had seen him before but this tourney sealed it.... [for those among us who feel this small tourneys don't matter at all] Borguetti says how playing within the US (friendlies) is not the way to go in order to make players more likely to be bought/arise interest from Euro clubs, but to play OVER THERE (in Europe).... <can't argue there, for once> that Euros pay attention more to the CL, Uefa, Confederations Cup, league play and having one's NT play over in Europe itself..... the impartial interviewer wishes the players luck and hopes for 2 goals from Borguetti. perhaps that their mentality/attitude was not the best, you know.... willing to blame everything in themselves rather than ever EVER giving the US any credit, maybe? that's the attitude i got just listening to them, since i was mostly typing/translating to what they were saying..... ANd furthermore, Lavolpe IIRC a few days ago said it was QF at this time around or bust
the fact that this issue has gotten as much play as it has on these boards, really makes me question the intelligence levels of the BS posters. actually it makes me question the intelligence of the Mexican posters. actually, to take it one further, it makes me question the intelligence of the Tri players and Lavolpe. You're underestimating the human ego. LaVolpe knows that Bruce reads the press and is trying to provoke him by saying this crap. It obviously shouldn't work, but who knows? It's obviously a psychological game, and sometimes they work.
'tis a good point. i will say this though: i've read similar comments before each and every US/Mexico match since .... well, probably at least 2001. if that tactic is not working, maybe they should try something else. Bruce is not driven by this Latin ego thing where you have to play more attractive soccer than the opponent. thus goading him probably isn't going to yield any results.
I am sorry to say that at the Azteca, it was the other way around. Lavolpe completely outcoached Arena on Xs and Os ... and then Arena outcoached himself also. The pre-game talk is just PR nonsense.
yeah, all the other wins against Lavolpe were flukes? I agree one game BA was outcoached, but BA has had Lavolpe's number.
they haven't played all that many matches have they? i remember the one in houston ... maybe there were 1-2 others ...
I was refering to the past few years in which the US has played Mexico and BA has out-strategized Mexcico my favorite post in the past few months, I think
After our Copa America win in 1995, we went a good five years without beating Mexico. And if you look at competitive games, we won the biggest one in the World Cup, but we split the qualifiers in 2001 and lost the most recent one this year. I still expect a win against Mexico, but let's not get crazy and think this is a done deal.
Borguetti ought to concentrate on showing that he can play at that level -- that is the surest way to increase interest in Mexican players there.
Arena is 1-1-1 vs. Lavolpe, with the win coming in Dallas on Eddie Pope's goal. In any case, Mexico will play the US in the US because it likes the $$$ that come from playing here. In essense, this becomes a neutral ground match since the Tricolor fans outnumber the Sam's Army in the big Southwest stadiums. But these are usually friendlies where the purpose is to blood the new talent rather than to prevail with the final score anyway. And so Arena is 0-1 vs. Lavolpe where it counts.
I don't understand why this upsets people. Should borghetti say, "yeah we haven't beaten them in the US for a while now. We're all depressed about it, and I doubt we'll come out on top this weekend." No, you expect the guy to say previous meetings don't matter and we expect to win. He didn't say a thing in this interview that I wouldn't expect from a professional soccer player. I also don't understand the mexican complaining about the way we play. So if you know how we're going to play, go out and devise a way to beat us. You want us to play a more open style so you can take advantage of our weaknesses. Brilliant. Bruce will no doubt do exactly that. You play to win the game, moron.
