it takes a talented player to find open space and create opportunites for shots on goal, and thats something laurent has done well with his limited time on the pitch (think about all the good looks he's getting compared to others in the starting XI). the only thing he's missing is the art of finishing and i think that's tied to MIND GAMES.
Definitely needs to learn to finish. I was screaming my head off pleading for him to take a proper shot yesterday. i'm not sure it's all nerves; he seems a little indifferent to everything and doesn't look to be as pumped up as everyone else, which could be an issue because i think our team works so well right now because of the great chemistry.
Excellent summary. It might also be him getting used to the MLS. He just looks lost in front of the net. Compared to Jorge Flores, who took a shot in his first minute, Merlin might be getting less minutes. He did draw that penalty. Props for that.
I love what Jorge Flores did yesterday in comparison to Laurent Merlin. Flores is hungry and I don't see that in Merlin. He did draw the penalty but Flores will get more minutes than Merlin for sure.
this is exactly what laurent needed, huge confidence boost and more importantly he was actually showing some emotion after his goal. congrats on no. 1 merlin
He scored that goal BECAUSE I badmouthed him, first. I think I'll badmouth Bornstein next. Congrats Merlin!!
Hahahaha! Haha! Oh the irony, I LOVE it--MLS needs more of it! Laurent Merlin scores his first league goal against the club who cut him (after all that ballyhoo open tryout) when they probably could have used his services. Seems to be a pattern that players who the Galaxy let go hurt them in league play.
He wasn't one of the "stars" that could be aligned with all the others on the Galaxy this year. Same with Thomas and Nagamura.
The thing that is great about this guy is that he is hard working every time he steps on the pitch. All he lacked was a little confidence. But he has always created chances.
Laurent will work more to show that he can play more.He really likes the team, and Chivas players. I think he fells very happy at Chivas, and this is very important for a player. I am very happy for his first goal. And a great shot.
Does Laurent stay with Chivas USA next season ? Will he be still the substitute of Razov or Galindo ?
My Son (12 Yrs Old) Told Me Today... 'dad, I Remember When You Said... A Goalkeeper Was Born In Brad Guzan In April 2005 Against The Galaxy. Now I Can Tell You That On 09/13/07 And Against The Galaxy A Forward Was Born And That Is Laurent Merlin. I Could Not Agree With Him More, As He Displayed A Much Better Futbol Against The Rapids. I Think He Will Be Back Next Year... I Can Not Say The Same About Hamilton. CHIVAS AND STRIPES FOREVER!!!
