I just noticed its a bit confusing....the first score is the aggregate score between the two teams and the second result is the second leg result...hope that helps

WOW! Look at the parity in the scores!! The games were closer than the CL games!! Whoever said that the first rd. of the UEFA Cup is boring needs their head checked. All of the "lesser" Eastern European teams except a few easily showed they could play with the richer leagues' teams. For example, ALL of the English sides easily could have lost.

    Chelsea - LOST
Blackburn - Won on away rule
Fulham - Won by 1 goal
Leeds - Won by 1 goal
Ipswich - Won by 1 goal

very good point and actually today i watched in the news Catanha (Malaga) saying that today in football you cannot trust a small team and have to face each match like a final...

I think what you said proves his point even further

why does England get 5 teams in the uefa cup thats way too many in my opinion. They may get more in too because of a CL 3rd place finish. 5 is too much screw you England!

    Could have ,but didn;t..
Anyway ,dont comment on games you didn;t watch.
I'll give credit to those sides ,especially ipswich, for getting through .
Ipswich are about 20th in division one at the moment.

    do your research ,fool.
    We get 3 automatic places...
Fulham qualified through the intertoto cup..
Ipswich entered because of some Fair-play ruling..

Fulham was one Inamoto clearance off of crashing out (and this is coming from a Fulham fan!) Blackburn was reported to have had the "scare of their lives" according to the BBC. The Eastern Euro sides brought their A game and the English sides just barely survived. If you read all the reports they will say the same. There is still good competition across all of UEFA and the UEFA Cup shows that.

Perhaps it is the arrogance of the richer nations that winds up getting them in more trouble than they should in the UEFA Cup. Because the UEFA Cup doesn't offer much in terms of financial reward, some clubs (mainly the richer ones), consider it a "burden."

On the other hand, for the Eastern Europeans, this is there only chance to shine and get wide publicity in Europe, so they do their best.

    *yawn*

I suggest you re-read the scores at the top the page . Eastern european sides lost about 80% of their ties .When we get to the quarter final there wont be a single eastern european team left .

I dont buy into your bullshit theory that a 1 goal win is classed as "barely survived"... .You have to judge a game on its merits.
Fulham were playing their first ever european game so a win over the experienced hajduk split wasn't bad.
Ipswich are currently struggling in the lower divsions so an away win over the yugoslavs Sartid is excellent..
Cska sofia had the advantage from the first leg and blackburn turned it around....
I watched leeds in both matches and they came up against a stubborn defence but were never really troubled too much ....

The italian had a rough ride against eastern europeans teams but I dont see them getting a mention..
Cheivo were beaten by Red star and big-spenders parma were one minute from elimination by CSKA moscow....

I bet you didnt watch a single game last night and are relying on second hand reports .
    Keep it real ,fool.

You're mighty quick to throw that out there. There isn't a whole lot of shame in losing to Red Star Belgrade - you're talking about one of the Eastern European game's giants, with immense history, not to mention European Cup winners only eleven years ago.

Re: Re: Latest UEFA CUP results (R)

I agree with you....I think that first of all the English league is one of the best in Europe and deserve, logically, more spots in the UEFA than say a country like Moldova...
Also, I think that before trashing teams because they got into the UEFA you must see the circumstances and it is quite good that teams such as Blackburn or Ipswich managed to go through and my congratulations to them...
On another hand, I think that even though some people have been saying that it is good to go through by only one goal, the English and other important teams such as Celta (who lost to a Danish team in the second leg) should realy pick up their pace if they want to do anything important in this tournament.

As my british friends would say (or so I think)...cheers

can't you come up with a neater way to list the results and aggregates? perhaps something a little more lined up?

to be honest, i don't think it is worth reading the results the way you list them, Alepinero.

Is there such a thing as an Eastern European giant anymore ?

Red Star may have the history but in recent years their sides have poor. It's the same with all the great names from the Eastern Bloc, thats all these teams are nowdays, just a famous name.

They still turn out phenomenal talent at the youth level - their two latest exports being Goran Drulic and Milenko Acimovic - due to the fact that most of the coaches from the old six-state league are still in place. But yeah, they've certainly fallen on hard times recently.

Still, though, I would say that there is still such a thing as an Eastern European giant. Does anyone still take Dynamo Kiev lightly?

definitely no1 takes Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk lightly...also the weather conditions make russian teams such as Spartak Moskva and such very hard teams to beat...
    Also think about turkish teams....
