While I agree Colin does not in the least sound convincingly optimistic, it must be considered that this appears to have been taped the day of the Galaxy game, as they are both talking about how Landon will not be welcomed to Spartan. He does say that they have an investor they're working with. This sounds encouraging. On the stadium front, doesn't sound like much has gone on. Lastly, Colin predicted a 3-0 win by the Quakes, and he should have won a steak dinner by the radio host.
This, combined with some of the phraseology of the latest e-mail, convinces me that we should all be pinning our hopes on expansion for 2007. If a deal to save us for 2006 were imminent we wouldn't even be talking about securing the heritage for expansion. Prepare for a long cold summer.
Did he say "the guy" or the "investor"? Good for them for making sure we get to keep the Quakes heritage. I still BELIEVE!
The use of the word 'guy' was from me. What was clear is that it is an individual. Other communications from them suggested there wasa a group of investors (although that may be reading into things). I don't know if he heads the group, is the key member, or what. Hell, maybe its Tony Amapour.
Hmm.... I'm going to have to listen to it. I wonder what individual has ties with AEG. I can think of a group.... But an individual... I gotta go listen....
My goodness! They've done a brilliant thing by securing the name! Brilliant! Absolute kudos to them! Funny how some find this a bad thing. But it's outright brilliant. In their position they can't be in the place to put all their eggs in one bag. They have to plan for the worst. And they've done it brilliantly! SSV rocks!
This was taken into consideration with AEG as far back as during the August 2004 downtown rally. This is not new news. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
If we don't have an investor come through now before the team is moved what makes you think we'll have one in 2007 to bring a expansion team here? If we lose the Quakes MLS isn't coming back here for a long time...
No it's not. Colin was asked a question and he answered it. He was directly asked what we would all do if all this work was done and the Quakes were moved. That's all. .
I respectfully disagree. If they leave, it will be because there is an investor waiting in the wings who cannot get a stadium. If they leave, the investor will begin the hard work of getting a stadium approved with some governmental entity. After that deal is done, the investor will buy an expansion franchise and name it the San Jose Earthquakes. They will play at exisitng Spartan for one and a half seasons, and then move into their own SSS. The Bay Area is too large a market to not have a team here.
AEG does lots of stuff, so lots of people have ties to AEG. I would guess it is someone who has done business with AEG in something outside of soccer.
