Has anyone had any success with last minute car hire/rental? It looks like we will be on the road, and are trying to locate a car rental place in Joburg (we are in Melville) for a three day rental beginning Thursday. (We could travel to pick up the car, although it would be excellent if the car could be dropped off at our place in Melville -- not sure if this service is offered in South Africa). Everything is coming up as booked on the web ... but we suspect that this is not actually the case. When we search the car hire sites they ask us for pickup locations, and so we have to try them all individually (not knowing where exactly they are, of course!). If anyone has had any luck and would be prepared to share any advice, it would be much appreciated!
I called a few places at OR Tambo on Saturday morning, and the fourth one (Budget) had a car available for 4 days. You might have more luck calling, then looking online, the parking garage didn't exactly look empty for any of the companies.
