Starting to look like Las Vegas will the 31st team when the league finally decides to expand to 32 teams or more. Also here in the Hoosier state if Indy gets it all together I think they will be the 32nd team and it will likely come down to funding and new stadium.

5 things to know as Las Vegas pursues MLS expansion team

The fight for Major League Soccer’s 30th franchise has commenced in Las Vegas.

The city began an 180-day window for talks with The Renaissance Companies Inc. on June 5 about a proposal to build a new stadium downtown in the hopes of luring an expansion franchise. Meanwhile, Golden Knights owner Bill Foley is trying to secure a MLS team of his own that could play in Las Vegas Stadium — the future home of the Raiders — or elsewhere.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The city of Las Vegas is still exploring a proposed soccer stadium at Cashman Center after Major League Soccer announced its 30th franchise will come to Charlotte, North Carolina.

City officials announced earlier this year they would study a proposal to turn the Cashman Center into a mixed-use development anchored by a soccer-specific stadium.

"The city remains in negotiations with the Renaissance Companies to build a new MLS stadium at the Cashman site and bring an MLS franchise to Las Vegas," a city spokesman said in a statement Wednesday.

MLS Expansion Update: Charlotte, Phoenix, Las Vegas, $600 Million Fees and Six Cities Drop Their Bids - MLS looks to go to 32 teams
Don Garber confirmed that “the league is still in discussions with Phoenix, the other city that submitted a bid back in 2017, and Las Vegas, which emerged as an expansion contender earlier in 2019.” If those cities are let in, that would bring the league to 32 teams. Previously MLS has said they’ll stop at various lower numbers, mostly recently it was 28 before it was 30. It likely won’t stop as long as owners are willing to pay huge sums of money.

One more note, the Las Vegas situation could get messy quickly. They moved any process to bid for an MLS team to February 2020. The city and Garber both want the USL club to transition up like FC Cincinnati/Nashville SC...etc. But the Las Vegas Light refuses to do so until he gets his price. That price could be astronomical for US standards considering he’s maybe spent 20-35 million on the club in two years if that. Your looking at a club that could be worth at least 500 million from the start. Garber and some city officials are growing more and more frustrated with the owner who used to work in the MLS offices. Las Vegas was to have presented a proposal in Oct/Nov.....but with the inability to get a deal done to sell everything is at a standstill. They are couple of folks with real money in the city. Fenway Group is the other rumored party. Two of these groups want to move forward with city plans to rebuild and expand Cashmants current owner must sell. He to 20,000 while the other wants to put them in the new NFL stadium.

Well, it looks like the Las Vegas effort has hit a road bump. So not all is completely smooth and perfect even with the Vegas effort. This may really be nothing, just all the details not being wrapped up in time for this city meeting next week. It it may be something. We'll see.

"Citing details “still yet to be resolved” in negotiations with a developer, Las Vegas officials said Tuesday that a proposed stadium deal at Cashman Field will not be presented to city lawmakers next week as expected."

Las Vegas is now the front-runner for the next round of MLS expansion, a source close to the league says. Another, though, says it's probably too early to say for sure whether LV becomes 30th club. Next MLS board of governors meeting: Aug. 25.
